Strange thing happened to my GQ today...

It ran incredibly stable. No pings, ghost beeps or threshold problems. Finally, I can hear the faintest signals. Egad, it was running smoother than my Surfmaster PI, no actually, smoother than my explorer as 18 sensitivity.
I live in california and conditions here are difficult for operating at or near 10us. I usually contend myself to running 1/4 more delay and medium SAT speed. Today, the GQ was wide open at 10us and SAT at slow.
I wonder why this is so. Sunflares? I just started to swing low and slow (Mr. Bill's tip) but I almost cant believe that that was it. I use to swing pretty fast as I was used to with my Surfmaster.
Whatever it is, I hope the stability sticks with me.

Hello JT,
I've experienced the same, One day Santa Monica or Zuma beach can be so nice with soil conditions near perfect then the next day have to use more SAT or delay to maintain a smooth threshold. The shifting of the sand will change the soil conditons and with the high winds and ocean current changes lately has helped some areas and made it worst in others.
It gets worst up north around the bay area and down south from what I've heard, We are fortunate to have nice clean beaches with low levels of iron ratio and better soil conditions than other parts of California.

There is alot of solar flare activity at this time and it can cause problems, that can differ from day to day.

I agree with Paul. I think it has more to due with sand conditions than anything else. It happens here on the East Coast to even to the Explorer. Sometimes I can run the sensitivity up to 26-27 and it runs stable. On other days on the same beach I can not go over 20.

Try using a small strong magnet on the sand where the PI works stable and then where it is less stable. Compare the amount of iron being attracted. This might help identify or eliminate one common variable; iron in the sand.
