Strobey learned a lesson today courtesy of the Big Cat and the Ace 350!!

And I'm sure it was a tough one to swallow!! For quite some time I've been telling him that you can't rely on digital displays to tell you what to dig and what to leave. Two targets in close proximity to each other can trick the detector into thinking its a trash target. After I dug up a nice mens gold band, 14K 5.2 grams, that hit just like a pulltab on my new 350, he decided to start digging the pulltab signals with his 1250. He was rewarded with a nice Avery 925 cross ring that was right next to a nickle. The 2 targets combined to give them the same conductivity as a pulltab. Here's the pics of the days loot for me!!

And the trash I had to dig to get that nice gold band!!

And a pic of Strobey who is a much wiser man after being schooled by the Big Cat!!

The 350 is turning out to be a nice little gold finder for me although I'm pretty sure I would have dug that signal no matter what Garrett I had been using. I did leave some deep signals in the ground as the soil here is so hard and dry that anything over 4 inches is a real chore to excavate. That's OK, they'll still be there the next time.
That makes 3 gold rings now for the 350 so I'd say that it has more than paid for itself. I probably would still have 3 gold rings because I still would have been out there detecting with a good friend, but the fact that it's paid for now is sweet!!

Have you hunted in zero mode for gold. I picked up a gold chain bracelet in that mode that wouldn't make a peep in the other modes and it signaled with a boop! boop! instead of the standard signal.

I'm getting so many targets in Jewelry mode, I don't think I'll be digging very many of the Low tone targets just yet. I have checked a few of the ones that hit in that mode but they all turned out to be nails.

I wish I could get more time on it, but it's been a real madhouse at work, lotsa hours needed...but I'll take it while it's there. Gotta pay for that AT Pro somehow...but I'd rather do it by finding gold rings!!

Good lesson and great ring total. I had a wicked gold drought for the first 8 months of 2010. Then it started piling up and I've now found more gold (number of items, not weight) in 2010 that in any previous year. I look forward to those pull tab signals more than any other. Do I pass?

Chris

Yes, you do!! It took me a good while to learn the lesson myself. It can be tiring at times, digging all that trash, but one gold ring and you are rewarded for your efforts. I guess I'm kinda glad most detectorists just pass those signals by, because it just leaves the gold for me.

When I go to a site and start digging nickles and tabs I know there is gold to be found. But this last year it's been tabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:ranting:
