Stupid people on ebay

I have "messed" with e-bay since '01. I've sold a couple used detectors on there, along with some other things. Everybody that ever purchased anything from me was very happy with their item. Recently, it seems that most of the e-bayers that I've had the pleasure of dealing with are totally STUPID. They don't read the listings, they are rude as all get-out, and it is totally a different world than it was some years ago. I guess the US population has grown to be more this way, especially the young folks. What is this world coming to?

But, I know that this is not an e-bay forum, and I apologize for venting my frustrations here, but the wife a'int around to gripe to................
 
And theres always the feedback you kinda know who your dealing with.....
 
I do think you have a point......DUHHHH. You're right. It would be a pleasure to deal with some "intelligent" folks(for a change). There seems to be a shortage of such folks on e-bay. Thanks.....I didn't actually realize that this forum had classifieds until after the "e-bay" experience. Never had scrolled down that far.....NEXT TIME.....
 
When selling I always try to ship out immediately and often drive to a post office the second a deal is completed to get the item shipped right away... My ebay rating is still 100%...but I gave a neutral...due to a person sending a one bid .99 and $3 shipping payment to the wrong paypal address. I waited a few days as payment to me was shown as pending. I sent several letters to person and found out there is a way to call anyone you deal with on ebay! So I called...son answered...I told him this is very minor please have your mother corect the address she sent the payment to and simply cancel the one sent to the non existent account...well nothing happened paypal and ebay kept bouncing the ball back and forth to solve the problem.

Well finally a smart paypal employee said I have an idea...just create that exact paypal account as a secondary account and accept payment...a small headache but worked!:happy: But even after a week the lady still did not answer. So I gave her a neutral rating... Of course I had immediately shipped and she received exactly how described. She then gave me a neutral rating...pretending she had paid twice!:veryangry: I double checked with ebay and paypal...of course she was lying...all this over $4...wow!!!
 
You will find it a nice experience. Most know what you are selling..and more important they know what they are buying..You can even post pictures....I have had many very nice deals here.
 
I too have been wondering just what has happened to change the atmosphere of ebay. For the past couple of years it seems like quite a few crooked people have zeroed in on the metal detector auctions. The sellers are targeted in several ways. A new classic scam is where the buyer pays, seller ships, the buyer receives the goods and then contacts the seller with phony complaints, "but they're trying to be nice about it". (They hint that they're trying to not post bad feedback on the seller.) They then want to open up negotiations to receive some money back or have the seller pay for a new coil, claiming the coil sent makes weird noises or doesn't work at all.

The seller then knows it's a shakedown, because everything was working perfectly when shipped. The seller requests the return of the detector package as received for a FULL REFUND including all shipping costs. The buyer ignores this and presses on about how they're glad seller will stand behind his product and that they will settle for a refund of X number of dollars, and that they don't want to burden the seller with all of the repacking and shipping costs to return the goods.

Another scam is where they will keep an eye on the auctions for a model exactly like theirs, bid on and win the auction. After receiving the detector they then switch the control box guts and claim the one the seller shipped just doesn't work for some reason. In this scenario they will gladly return the detector to the seller. Make sure you record the serial number of any detector you sell. scribe an inconspicuous tiny mark on the main PC board if possible. Also on the coil or coils, but not so they're obvious - maybe between the mounting ears. Write the locations of these identifying marks on a sheet of paper and keep in a safe place. These scammers will switch coils on you if they think they can get away with it.
 
Unfortunately too many flea market, pawn shop etc. that don't know a detector from a broom, do yourself a favor and deal on the detector classifieds where you will be dealing with fellow detectorists which usually turns out better. Sort of a crap shoot on E-bay and know fellows that got good deals and on the other hand got junk..In any case do be careful as dealing on the net can be an experience at best....both good and bad....

Well, I think part of the problem is that EVERYTHING IS for sale, even HOW TO GET AROUND ON Ebay. You can take a class now on how to buy and sell on Ebay. I'm not surprised that scumbags out there have found Ebay an easy way screw people.
I don't use Ebay anyway. Never trusted the thing!

Where I live we have a very widely distributed paper called The Little Nickel. Its a papaer wherre people advrtise and sell everything. Maybe you have one in your area. If you live in a good sized city the chances are you have something like that. Maybe thats the way to go advertiseing for MD's and selling them.

We have a paper widely distributed here called the Little Nickel. There are papers of similar kinds in most large cities where people buy and sell. Its really not much different than most classifides in your local paper. Maybe we all should start putting advertising there for MD's ?

One of the biggest scams going on eBay is , hijacking an account/ listing on eBay. What to look for is selling an item for 1 day and/or in the eBay auction listing they say that their eBay email does not work and sent any questions to an alternate email address!
1. Always check a sellers feedback! 95% or better is good
2. Look at recent items sold. - a person who sells nothing but hand made pot holders all of a sudden selling a 1968 fully restored Convertible Camaro for a "Buy-it-Now" of 5,000 should raise a red flag!
3. Always ask questions if the answer your looking for is unclear and not spelled out in the listing.
4. Use PayPal. - I only use PayPal. Everytime I had an issue with a seller I contacted PayPal and I got a refund. 100%
5. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is!

Well, ebay is not nearly as user-friendly(in both respects of the phrase) as it used to be, for one thing. And, as someone else mentioned, there are classes and courses that can be taken to educate ebayers. When "fun" turns into something that complicated, it ain't fun any more. What I don't understand is- why doesn't ebay have any competition? Every person, corporation and company wants to make money, and the reason most fail is due to competition, whether it be overseas or here. But nobody seems to have the ability or desire to compete with ebay. It should be an open market. Oh, well...........Life goes on.........

It's free and it's local. I just sold a kayak and a treadmill, listed them under Central Jersey. Both buyers live within 25 miles of me. Can post pics and phone number too. The listing will disappear after 45 days or you can delist it when the item is sold. Again, it's FREE.

I am selling my Ford Ranger pickup this afternoon........and did it on Craigslist! Man looked at it yesterday, we made the deal, and he's getting it at 330pm today. I will tell you though, there ARE alot of scammers on Craigs. I have heard that ebay actually owns Craigslist. I don't know how true that is, however. Even though we may list our stuff locally, or in a designated area, people from Africa will often try to scam us.
