Sun Ray 5" Search Coils

tippyhound

New member
I am new to the Finds Forum and the Minelab E-trac, so I would like to apologize for the user name Tippyhound, as I know it has nothing to do with metal detecting. I adopted the Tippyhound user name as my e-mail address a few years back when I lost a Beagle I had given that name some years before. She was a wonder full rabbit hound and a very good friend. Guess this is just my way of paying tribute to her and keeping her to the front of my mind so I don't forget her.
I recently purchased a Mine lab E-trac detector and my wife has talked me into purchasing a X-1 Probe for it (Christmas Present). I am also considering purchasing the Sun Ray X-5" DD coil for hunting in those really trashy areas. Having been in the hobby since 1968 I can think of many areas where this coil should really shine. From what I have head on it it does a impressive job getting good depth and seperating targets even though it is so much smaller then the stock coil. Which by the way I'm quite impressed with that 11" coils ability to separate targets that are extremely close together.

Could I get some feed back from users of the 5" coils. Any and all would be appreciated.

I have the Sun Ray 5" coil and love it. The only probllem that I have seen is that the depth reading is a little off with the 5" coil.

I have one also. Use it on my Etrac and my Quattro. Great coil! Love it. I also second tmanly's comment. Coin depth is less than display says, most of the time.

Good Luck,
Mark

The S-5 is a nice coil and I agree with the depth scale findings from the others ....I find that you can run your Sensitivity higher also ..... Don't be afraid to mess with the Sensitiviy !!....You'll be very surprised how deep this little coil can go ....Jim

I have one... love it! use it as much as the pro coil..... also have the 8" Minelab coil but it only gets used a minimal amount - I prefer the X5 over it...

Like the other guys said surprisingly good depth!
