Sun Ray Probe Problem?

I was out in my favorite park thats been pounded to death this morning and even managed to find one 1952 Silver Franklin Dime.....happens to be my birth date too. Hope this is a good sign of good things to come.
I would like some feed back by owners of the Sun Ray probe they use with their Minelab Explorers. I am having some real problems I think with mine now......it acts like it is having a nervous breakdown by all the noise its now making. I flip the toggle switch on the side of the Sun Ray Probe and it acts like it has found the motherlode of all times....even when it is not near any metal....no quiet area once I flip this switch.....I am using Mike Moutrays settings on my Minelab ExplorerII .....am wondering if I should send it in for service and would much appreciate any help on this forum I could get to fix it if possible. I would try it with the factory presets first, and if you still have a problem, give Ralph at Sunray a call. His banner is right at the top of the page.
I use the probe on my explorer and it works flawlessly. The only time I've wondered why I'm hearing strange noises is when I've forgot to toggle back to coil from probe and it picks up any metal in my pocket <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Mine wanders and is nearly un-useable if I forget to remove it or turn it on too close to my unit. I did have a problem with mine at one time and it turned out to be the cable to the probe.The people at Sunray were great and had it fixed promptly and it has worked great ever since. Would not detect without it! Might try wiggling various areas of the cord especially at the probe to see if it is intermittent.Now if I can get off of work long enough to actually use mine. When this happens with me, I lower the sensitivity.

Except when I get done using it and forget to flip the switch back to the main coil, and then proceed to find the keys in my pocket for about 10 yds or so.

Mine did the same thing and it was the cable. If you have the coil type cable most likely it needs replaced. You will not find a better person to deal with than Ralph. He will solve your problem.

When Probe switch in down position and detector not on Pinpoint it works great! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol">

Tenroz, You sound like you have the same problem I had with mine. sent it in and they replaced the probe's cable with the newer design. seems that they changed the cables composition and took care of things. good luck, jim

I called Sunray Detector Electronics about my <STRONG><STRONG>Sunray</STRONG> X-1 probe</STRONG> a few days ago and I talked to Ralph who knows his stuff real good. He helped me figure out how to set up my probe so it didnt act up like it was doing. For anyone new on here he told me if you are hunting in the manual setting on the Minelab Explorer2 and are using the probe to find treasures....to push the Auto setting button to quiet the probe right down.....Sure enough it was that simple....lucky me. <STRONG>Thanks again Ralph </STRONG>at Sunray.
