Sunday afternoon's finds

Had a great day hunting a yard today. Found $2.06 all together, $1.10
of that in silver. Can't read the date on the Indian Head cent. The 17 wheat
cents range fro 1920 to 1957. The war nickel is a 1944-P. All the coins
were between 5 and 8 inches, even the clad and memorial cents. Can't wait
to get out there again and see whats left to find. I covered just a third of the
yard so there should be plenty more. :geek:

Hi everybody,
I went back to the same yard again yesterday afternoon. Found five more
silver coins, several wheat cents, three clad dimes and three memorial cents.
The first coin I dug initially sounded like another copper cent, but it was in a
thick mass of tree roots and took me over ten minutes to cut out. I was shocked
to see an 1830 Bust Dime pop up and lay on top of the root that I was prying
apart. :yikes: I've found just one Barber Dime and no Seated coins yet, so
I wasn't even thinking I'd find one of these any time soon. Then I noticed a
few nicks and scratches from the recovery. I'll probably try and keep
a large set of garden clippers with my detecting kit to take care of the roots
in the future. Some wire cutters would be nice too for some delicate root
surgery. It seems like I already carry along too much stuff though.
The house I've been searching is in my neighborhood and belongs to a
member of my church. I get to search as long as I fill in the holes.
The architecture looks like late 40's or 50's, with is in line with the other
houses in the area. I haven't researched what was here before that yet.
I may check with the local historical society to see that they can tell me
about the area this winter.

Mark
