Sunday Omega Gold

Well-known member
Hit three chip tot lots after Church and on the third one right off got a solid 57 reading with the conf. meter maxed. Scraped away about an inch of chips and found a 14k ring with a stone staring back at me. Don't know what the stone is yet, but pretty and seemingly something neat to be mounted in 14k. I was searching with sen. of 75, 1 disc. and G B at factory 82. The second picture is some of the finds I mentioned earlier this week. HH everyone, jim tn

I really like it when a ring stares back at me from the hole..... I know it made your day too. :)

Jim, congratulations on the ring...neat stone? That's an opal! I know I am looking at a photo, but from what I can see it is a black opal. Very very nice. It depends on whether it is solid opal or not as to how much it is worth. Sometimes the jeweller will set the solid stone, other times the stone may be sliced, and then placed on a backing....the latter is not so valuable...but doublets(as the sliced ones are called) give the jeweller more bang for his bucks (spent) because he can make more rings or pendants out of the one stone...Very nice find!

Just as an afterthought Jim. If you hang onto the ring, give it a quick bath or shower from time to time. Opal is a silicate, and water is good for it.

I've yet to find gold with my T2, but my day is coming...... I have three silver rings with it so far though and a nice early 1910 nickel so I can't complain. :)

By "conf." meter I assume you mean signal strength? Unless I'm completely missing something I haven't found a confidence meter on my O8K yet...

Very nice looking ring.

looks like ya got that omega trained to snipe rings too..jim!
pretty find!

the stone is an Opal. My wife who was in the jewelry business some time back said so upon immediately seeing it. Smooth 23, it is signal strength meter. Particularly for nickels, I refer to it as a conf. meter. When I plucked the ring, I had the small 5" coil on and the ring was actually only about 4 or so inches away from a steel post of a slide. Any bigger coil and I probably would have missed it. Needless to say, on my hunt this morning I was really watching for 55-58 readings. As a result, I dug 12 tabs of various types and unknown pieces of can slaw. But, did get 3 nickels that were reading 56-58 and 1 was a no date Buffalo. Silver drought, though, is approaching one week. Wheat cents, however, are still popping up. HH jim tn
