Surfmaster coil

I've been thinking about building a coil for the surfmaster PI plus. The factory coil has about as much drag in water as a frying pan.Does anyone have the inductance of the factory coil so I can match it. Also any tips would be appreciated.

I have a number at home, but I don't know if it's right.
This brings up a problem I've run into measuring coil inductance. I borrowed the company LCR meter, an HP4261a with tweezers. I have absolutely no problem measuring IB coil inductances. But with PI and BFO coils, the meter constantly gives an overrange error, albeit with a displayed inductance value. I don't recall what the range of this meter is, but I believe the displayed values for the PI coils are well within its range. So I am not confident in the PI coil numbers I have.

Carl,
You need to get hold of an older unit such as the HP 4260A Universal Bridge. The new ones are great for surface mount components but they can screw up with a big coil such as used with a PI. Heathkit also made a good LCR Bridge which works well, Dave. * * *

Hello Carl and everybody of the forum, I used for years , a very precise Digital L/C meter from the great guys of Almost All Digital Electronics and for 90 Dlls.... equiped with PIC 16C622 ; you can measure any kind of PI coils ...
