There two different detectors, one a VLF, one a pulse induction. You certainly need to supply a lot more information as to what you

The Surfmaster 11 will discrimate and that will help you avoid some trash, the PI will go deeper, but is all metal and you dig all trash, normally in freshwater where the VLF isn't at a disadvantage compared to the PI in saltwater, people will normally use the VLF.
