Surfmaster PI

Anyone have any information on this detector? Such as: will it work on land as well as the beach etc. Sure appreciate it. joebody

Yes it will work on land or water, but you will dig every little piece of tin-iron-foil etc out there! It takes up a lot of your detecting time and wears on your back. For the extra inch or so you get with the surfmaster being a pi, I think you are best to get a cz20 or Excalibur that lets you know when you find iron and you can discriminate out small tinfoil without losing jewelry.Really if you learn to watch sand coming and gong on the beach near you, an inch or 2 hardly matters.Thats MY opinion-others may feel differently. I have owned a surfmaster pi and a modified surfmaster pi as well as 3 other pi units. I also own a cz20 and Excalibur= I got rid of all pi units for good!

Just out of curiosity. Why are you on a PI Forum if you have gotten rid of all of your PI equipment and have nothing good to say about it? Are you that bitter about the PI mode of operation? Not being overly critical of you, I just would like to know why your so adamant?
Thanks - HH BJR

I was wondering the exact same thing. Many detectorists use no discrimination and dig everything. PI is the perfect tool for those people.

A detector is only a tool I think you need both types Chuck how many different screw drivers and spanners have you got one size fits all???

I thought thats what forums were for-expressing different opinions and ideas. As I said "others may feel differently" and I personally can fully understand that [I guess you cant in my case] I am on a pi forum because all aspects of metal detecting interest me, but I do have my opinion-sorry.HH Chuck

who asked the question didnt mention the possibility of owning a number of different detectors- I have 8 right now as you probably have numerous detectors as well.I should have suggested that he get a vlf and a pi- but if he is going to get a pi, he would probably be best to get the HEADHUNTER PI instead of the Surfmaster pi etc etc-there are a lot of things that could have been suggested i'm sure.I thought I was making a suggestion to someone who was going to have 1 detector for now.HH Chuck ps-I have NOT given up on pi machines, I just dont own one now, but I did until 2 days ago and i'm sure I will again-but not if it were to be my ONLY detector. Please consider this area to have a big 'ol smiley face in it!

That, if you are in a position to buy more than one detector and dont mind digging all pieces of iron, then a pi WILL go deeper in most situations and is more sensitive to SMALL gold in most cases. I have owned the Newforce CS6pi, the Sandshark, the Fisher impulse, the Modified [by Mr. Bill-a great improvement!] Surfmaster pi,the Garrett Seahunter Mark II and last the Headhunter pi[ which goes MUCH deeper than ANY of the others! So in my somewhat expeienced opinion [ that others are free to disagree with ] STILL, if you can only own one for now, I suggest the CZ20 or Excalibur. If you can own 2 then the Headhunter pi is a lot deeper seeking than the others mentioned. If you have some money to spend, try one I havent yet, the Aquastar ! Like the one detectorist said, there are lots of different screwdrivers- but if you can only own 1 screwdriver, it should be the one you are most likely to use most often.HH Chuck

Chuck:
I was not offended. Just like I said. I was curious as to why you would be slamming PI units on a PI forum. That's all. Don't believe I would go to a Corvette Forum, and slam Corvette's. That's just me though. Also like I said. I was not being critical. Just wondering why you would do it, and now I understand. Thanks. HH BJR

offended.I guess if you consider my post a slam you might feel that way, I considered it an experienced opinion, meant to be helpful and dircted at an individual with a question. If I had come on the forum with nothing more to say than truely a slam, I would agree, I thougt I did better than that?
