Ever so often a decent hunt pops up and more often then not anymore it takes 3 or 4 hunts to make a decent photo shot.
The fresh from the grounds shots were on an old spot that typically has been frugal for old silver and old coins in general. I did get the 5" coil of a 36d Merc., a pretty decent 1901 I H cent and a 925 silver ring. On a earlier hunt I did get a shield nickel from the spot. My hunting buddy, however, got the bucket list prize of the day on that hunt. He popped a holed 1834 Liberty Cap half dime using his F 75 with a NEL Sharpshooter coil. That was his second half dime from that spot. On a previous hunt at the fairgrounds I got the 14k gold pendent and a 1907 V nickel along with a 54 Rosie. The 14k piece hit in the nickel range.
Yesterday I hit the fairgrounds again after a light shower and cold front had passed through and did the old nickel trick again getting a 1891 V followed up by a 1842p war nickel. I was using the 5 x 10 DD.
Today we hit an old spot downtown that we had checked out day before yesterday. I dug 8 wheats that outing and my buddy had some along with 2 Merc's., so we deemed it merited another shot. My first dug coin this morning was what might well be a 1930 Standing Liberty quarter. Six months less wear and I might know for sure. Also got a 60 Rosie, 3 wheats, 46 and 51 and ?. Got the top piece to a bracelet engraved with C Alvin Gray, U S Navy and the underside has some numbers. Name and numbers will give me something to play around with. It's just plain ole tough to beat a good beeping F 75.
