TROLL
Hunted my brothers yard over and over again with many different detectors. I used 10-11 inch coils on all of them and got to the point where high tones are a surprise. I bought a Gold Bug Pro (Teknetics G2) with the 5 inch coil knowing it can share coils with my Omega. Split a 2-3 hour hunt with each machine using the 5 inch coil only, and I wasn't disappointed in either one. Each detector got me a silver Rosie, while the GB Pro nabbed me a 1940 nickel and the Omega got me a wheat penny. It was great hearing nice coin tones with the 5 inch coil that my larger coils could not detect, because of the nest of iron they were in. I guess I'm another small coil believer like so many that post here.

That's great, Nice finds.

Those small coils don't try to read as much dirt as the large ones.

In trashy areas a large coil can get overwhelmed.

Better to use a large coil on the beach or other lower trash areas like ball fields.
