Ferrous tones are a very poor choice for coins. Yep thy are more for relic hunting.

excellent choice for beach though

I've been hunting wide open in ferrous for years and thought I was doing well until you showed up. I'll be honest with you, when you first started posting on the Kingzlicoil forum and everyday you where posting all those silver coins and older coins finds I thought you blowing smoke :detecting: . I remember telling Mark lets get him to Griffith Park and see if he can do the same thing there. Well buddy, all I can say is that I was eating crow because you're the real deal. You opened my eyes to trying the conductive tones but I can't seem to get use to them after all the years of using ferrous tones but I'm convinced that's the way to go if you want deep old silver. The thing that convinced me was the day you let me listen to a deepie in Griffith Park. I could barely hear the target but when I switched to conductive tones the target came in better. In ferrous tones I probably would have missed it and I move like a snail in the trash. From the ferrous tones I would have bet it was going to be deep iron and was shocked when you pulled out a merc.

Everyone has their own style of detecting and the settings that work for them. If you've been successful that's great and I probably wouldn't want to change either. Only time will tell if the new E-Trac is a step up.

Dan I think you could find oldies with stick if you had too. You and I know your secret, but I won't tell.

See you out there soon!

My GT is the same but the Explorer tends to false on rusty iron in the set sand sometimes...not always but enough to be annoying. Hunting in the Ferrous Audio Mode took care of it. Hoping the E-Trac is more like the Sov when it comes to falsing on iron or rather not falsing on iron :) If all goes well I will know the answer later today/tonight ;)
