Despite today being December 17th, only a week away from Christmas, the weather was in the low 40s with no wind so I took the opportunity to get out for some detecting. I am glad I did. I did not find a lot, but I did find three Civil War bullets, a brass grommet and an unusual lead seal with some lettering on it that I still need to further research, but the big find of the day was a beautiful New York State Artillery button made around 1860. This button is in excellent condition, lots of gold gilt still present. It is an example of one of the first military buttons to ever include the term "National Guard" on it making it a rare and unique find. The button was about 9 inches deep. I was running in All Metal Mode and my Sensitivity was at 85. The button gave a clean signal that registered 77 on the T2 screen.
Thank you for reading this post, Mark :teknetics:

Thank you Elton and Jim Tn for your comments. Turns out, upon further research, the button is rarer than I thought and was made between 1815 and 1830. Very cool.
