I know air is not same as in the ground but.. I was trying differnt ajustments and in all metal with the 5" coil it will give a nice audio signal at 11" on a quarter. I think that is great.
 
I just took my NEL sharpshooter coil off the other day and hunted with the 5" coil. That is a killer combination, T2 and the 5" coil. It goes very deep for its size. I guess big things can come in small packages.:detecting:
