T2 problems

heber man

New member
I just bought a "slightly used" T2 w/ R6 revision a little over a month ago, it has worked fine. Now, when I turn it on...it kind of goes HAYWIRE. Just sitting on the counter, the ID screen just "jumps" all over the place. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to what could be causing the malfunction?
PS...I have made sure everything is tightened and in place.

Thanks,

HeberMan

does it do that outside or just in or near the house?? Crappy batteries will make many detectors act strange. They may be new ones in there but swap them out anyway just in case you have a bad one.

of problems you are describing. He called the factory and they had him send his in for repair. He was told that the coil had gone bad and the factory promptly replaced it. Now his T2 runs flawlessly.

IN ORDER:

If you have a coil cover remove it and make sure the coil is clean.

Make sure you have fresh batteries

Make sure there is no electrical interference near by

Check your mode and sensitivity settings.

Loosen the four screws that hold the control housing together (I've seen this happen where the PCB becomes warped and causes this problem)

Send it in for repair.

No it dont!!!!!! They did promptly replace the coil but it came back doing the same thing. Set it down or hold it out from your side, it still makes false signals and the meter goes "57 nickle" 74 nickle, 77 dime. I have not had a chance to have it seen about but for the price of the machine I should not have to.

If the detector works fine while sweeping with the coil parallel to the ground whats the problem??? The T2 is not the only sensitive detector to behave the way you describe due to interference. The T2 I tried worked just fine but often times acted up as you stated when the coil is in the air or not being swept over the ground. It can be a little bit of a pain to have it sounding off when you lay it down to dig but, on the other hand the rewards are worth it. Try it in some other areas or drop the sensitivity down if you cannot tolerate the noise and jumpy numbers.

i sent mine off last week hope it work's ok when i get it back.when i turned it on the target id would jump every where then just stop and then start all over again.

Hi,

when i first bought my T2 I got a similar problem and I since I heard that T2 had problems with interferences, I thought that was it.
Now, after 7 months of usage, I feel I know little better this fantastic machine. Shortly after I had a problem similar to what you describe ( once i turned it on, T2 went nuts and it was impossible to Ground Balance either) I started studying it and the solution was there : the cable was a bit loose and that - don't ask me why - caused the problem. I secured it tightier and T2 wroked fine. Now I always check that before turning on and he works fine.
Sometime anyway, it still gives me minor problems with good quality batteries when I changed them (it happened 2 times in 7 months!).
I prefer now to use standard batteries and it is definitely better.
Just my 2 cents

thanks for your help. i made sure everything was tight and put in three set's of new batteries also turned down the sens. i did all i could think of but it did not help. when i first got the t2 it would pick up a quarter about 16 in air tested now only about 4 air tested so that is why i sent it back.
