T2 vs 8000

This may have been previously answered . . . somewhere. On average in an urban setting, which detector is better, T2 or Omega 8000?

I have both, but am considering selling one . . . most likely the Greek. :help:

I have both also , the t2 is deeper. The omega is easier to ajust the ground balance and moniter ground conditions. Omega is more fun to use but if i had to choose i would keep the t2 over anything else. Just my thought.

I have both also and the omega is more fun and the Greek coils make owning more Greeks a bonus. I have them all accept the Delta.
T2 offers a little more depth but it lack notching that on certain days when I'm not wanting to hear everything is a great bonus.
And being able to monitor and adjust g.b on the fly is handy as well.
T2 is awesome but I hunt 95% of the time with the omega or Eurotek pro.

I have both and will be keeping them I like the 8000 for urban locations and the T2 SE for the Farms and woodlands they both have their place . the 8000 to me is a lot better for cit lots and parks as the notch feature is a plus

Thanks for the feedback. I will probably keep both. Am looking for a 5" coil for the T2. Already have one for the Omega. Too bad it can't be used on the T2. I hear the Teknetics T2 5" coil beats most, if not all, the non-Teknetics small T2 coils. Any opinions on that?

I don't have the Tek 5" coil. I have the Nel Sharpshooter and it stays on the T2 full time. Very little if any lost depth over the stock coil and the separation in iron/trash is great.

Gord, I have owned several of each model. I happen to prefer the current T2 'Classic' over the other T2 offerings, and it is a terrific value, especially with the smaller T2 5" DD coil. That's the coil that stayed on my T2 most often because it performed quite well in the more debris-filled places I tend to hunt.

However, I used my Omega 8000's the most for several reasons, and you qualified my answer with your post. You asked: "On average in an urban setting ..." and for me it was the Omega 8000. I had four Omegas, all the 'Version 4' production, and they appealed to me more for several reasons:

More at-a-glance info on the display.

A better selection of factory-produced search coils.

More accurate visual Target ID, especially on the mid-depth to deeper coin-sized targets than the T2's gave me.

Same grip and 'feel', but they felt handier to operate under most conditions.

My preferred coil for trashier areas was he 5" DD. For everyday open area coverage, such as an urban sports field, I liked the round 8" coil the best. A 3rd coil choice was either the 5X10 DD or the 5½X9¾ Concentric (standard) search coil, it really didn't matter much which of the two I mounted. It was usually 5" for trashy and 8" for open area with minimal trash.

Out of all the Teknetics models offered now or in the past couple of years, the Omega 8000 is still my favorite. I have my 5" DD coil and just need to find another rnew or very clean specimen to add to my arsenal. Enjoy your detectors because the Omega 8000 and T2 'Classic' are my two favorite Tek. units, in that order.

We agree on the omega, the 5" is great in trash but my favorite coil is the lowly 8" concentric followed by the elliptical concentric 10x5..
The 11" DD is seldom used.

We definitely agree. The 5" DD was my primary use coil on the 8000 for relic Hunting in dense iron debris or other very littered places, but the round 8" Concentric was my favorite general purpose Urban Coin Hunting coil for sports fields and big grassy parks, etc. The standard 5½X9¾ and the 5X10 DD were about tied. I didn't mention the 7X11 BiAxial coil for the Omega 8000 because I find that coil to be ugly and I never really liked its performance on any Teknetics model. Got rid of mine with the 3-coil package instantly.
