I thought I'd try something different today. I put on the 5 inch DD coil, set the sensitivity to 99, set the discrimination to 10, and dialed up the boost mode. With those settings it was running really quiet. That little coil was picking up targets where other coils couldn't go. I was amazed how high off the ground I could swing the coil and still get good hits. I ended up finding a 1943 War Nickel, a 1919 Wheat Penny, a1939 Wheat Penny, a silver pendant, a bunch of bullets and shotgun shells, and some buttons and jewelry. The find that intrigued the most was the bird leg band (990 76707). That thing is super tiny. It must be for a hummingbird.

I think the only bird bands I've seen posted have come from Jim and now you..thats some cool stuff alright...an indigo bunting from Alabama...might be some sort of bird graveyard there where all the banded birds go to die? Major respect for your hunting skills! ......If a fellow can find a birdband, he should be able to not miss anything else right?

Yes the weather was outstanding yesterday. The five inch coil does a great job. Nice finds, your of to a great start to the year.

Since the Indigo Bunting is not a game bird that's harvested like ducks, finding a band and getting it reported is a shot in the dark especially recovering a band that's not attached to a dead bird. I can only surmise that they want the band's recovery location for migration and nesting information. Elton you're usually the research man, I did my part in the finding the tiny thing. I chased it around the hole several times before isolating it in a small clump of dirt in my hand.

I can't wait until my NEL Sharpshooter coil gets delivered.

The regular T2 doesn't have the 'boost' mode. To get the boost mode you'll need the T2SE.

I'd like to see some reports on the Vaquero/Sharpshooter match up. I really like the T2SE/Sharpshooter match up a whole lot.

Just saw this thread, and hope to shed some light on the bird band "thing". Bird bands are usually put on the birds when they are very young (a few days old) and it is a means of identification of that particular bird. The bands are issued by an organisation/authority, which should have a record of who bought that particular band. As the bands have to be put on the birds when they are very young (to get them over the feet), they are a means of identification of birds which may be exhibited at bird shows. The band can be used as verification of ownership of the bird, and the age of the bird. This may be important for show purposes. Of course, if a bird escapes or is released from an aviary, where the bird ends up could also be of interest to breeders of that particular type of bird. Ok, anyone reading this should be asleep by now......
