Tadpole, Ghost, Gone Hunting ETC - Need Schooling

Hi Gang. X Etrac and current Nox 800 and newly acquired CTX used here. I need some solid advise from the experienced CTX guys. I buried a 9 inch dime in dry ground to test the CTX using stock coming program with ferrous coin on high trash with sens and other things pushed high. The CTX could not see the dime. So I posted the question on some Facebook pages asking if ithere were any suggestions on settings or programs that may help. So pretty much the advise I got was try Tadpole or Ghost etc and turn off high trash.When Iasked why is Tadpole better the stock coin all i got was in turns more power on. Guys coming from the Etrac and having well over 100 hours on the Nox I learned stock programs do as well as any other it just comes down to settings like iron bias, sensitivity etc. Enough rambling. Is there any use trying Tadpole or others in typical hard hit public areas for coin shooting to increase depth or what others have missed? Am I correct on my assumptions? Or if the exprerienced guys say use Tadpole or any other pattern please explain why it is better then stock some actual reasoning other then things like " Tadpole works great or me" typpe answers .

There is no disc pattern that will help you detect any deeper than you could with an open screen. Too much disc can actually mask a deep target, especially if the ferrous line is set too low. A nine inch dime is a deep dime, and a freshly buried one will be harder to detect than one that has been in the ground for a long time. Even those that have been buried for years can be a challenge, and in mineralized ground can be impossible to detect. To find your dime: Make sure to noise cancel. Make sure that your auto ground balance box is un-checked. Set your sensitivity on manual 30, then back it down if you have to. Deep on. Low Trash separation mode, although depending on your soil, High Trash, Ground Coin, or Ferrous Coin might work better, so try them all. 0-disc, leave your screen completely open for that target.

Get a copy of Andy Sabisch's CTX book. It will answer a lot of questions.

Thanks. I should have. Clarified I don't like hunting in an open screen, to much trash and iron for the old ears. An I also know rest buried coins and coin gardens are not as good as in the field detecting. Please keep this in mind folks and thanks or the comments!

SS....nothing “turns more power on”, the transmit signal on the CTX and most other machines except for a VERY few is fixed. By decreasing the usage of discrimination,you are allowing for more error in the reading as targets get deeper or more skewed by offending trash. In mineralized ground or iron infested areas,the FE number of the reading may get up into the high 20’s,believe it or not...and the target can still be a coin. Generally speaking,a target up to 8” deep in “average soil” is no problem with the stock coil,VDI and tone are stable and interpretable. Check this video out that I made last week. There are 3 targets retrieved. The second is the most obvious and something about everyone would dig. The question is....would YOU dig the first and third? There are ALL kinds of these kinds of signals that can be analyzed,and most of these signals have been passed by in the past,if they were discovered at all. The CTX is capable of unbelievable things,most of the time the missing link between finding a coin or not is if the operator can tell what is going on. It teaches me things constantly,and that’s the kind of machine I like!

Thanks for the sub and take your time with your machines. There are people here who have ALOT of knowledge and I’ve made use of most of it. The real “nitty gritty” signals are always figured out by the individual operator,and you will be that guy!
