taking an Outback down under

I have a few buddies that detect under water and have even gone a few times, but don't own a detector for it. There is a 0% chance my Time Ranger was ever even getting in a creek. Anyway I bought an Outback and it's goin in the drink. I am stuffing it in a$2.00 'sureseal' container with a 1/4 lb of silica gel. A red 6mm led will plug into the speaker jack and a grommet or two should help with the coil cable. I don't know if this will work, but if it does it will be water detecting on the cheap. Time to build it...

PS Yes there will be insane amounts of silicone caulking [grin]

Good luck with the project...sounds like you have thought it out well, and use LOTS of silicone...lol...:clapping:

Found many a good things with it. did some shallow water hunting with it and it did just fine. How deep are you taking it? Just a quick note. In an air test of having it for about 4 months. It dosnt consistantly beep on gold. it will be a broken signal on midrange. But mine is heavily used. good luck to you and let me know how well it did.
