Talk about having a New Year to celebrate check this out...

Gen 8:13 "And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry..".

Did you catch that...the first day of the first month? Seems like a NEW YEAR to me and one to be remembered and Noah had good reason to celebrate...a fresh start...the wickedness of the world washed away...which now reminds me of the sins of the world washed away by the blood of Jesus...definitely reasons to celebrate a NEW YEAR.

May all have a blessed NEW YEAR.

Yes! I also read that and was curious as to when the first month was in Jewish culture. It is often referred to as a 'New Moon'. I still don't have a definitive answer but, from what I've learned thus far, the first month on the Jewish calendar appears to be March? I would appreciate it if someone would clarify this for me (and maybe your too DK). None the less, I'm sure Noah was more than ready to leave the ark.

No matter what day or month.....Noah and family had a new beginning, but look what has happened in those years since, that God willingly gave Himself, as His only begotten Son, for the cleansing of all our sins by accepting Jesus as Savior and confessing our sins to Him, Who forgives every confessed sin that is truly given to Him to bear! May God Bless! Amen! Betty

I think you may be right. I think that is where our New Year celebration originated. As with most of our Holidays, they were either to go along with or to compete, if you will, with the Pagan holidays. As with Christmas, it was a pagan holiday to celebrate or worship the sun. Christians chose that day to put a damper on the pagan worship. Not sure when Jesus was actually born, but in my studies of Scripture and related material, I assume it was in a warmer part of the year. Anyway, God had a reason for chosing the first month and the first day. If we would remember what God did in causing the flood to go away on New Years Day we might see that day in a whole new light. I had not really thought about that until SeniorSeeker made this post.
