Tall man rod ?

The standard rod with the X-Terra is extra long, according to many. In fact, one of the "biggest problems" reported early one was that the stock rod was too long for many folks to use comfortably. (a search of posts on this matter will provide some solutions to those who feel it is too long. In response to customer's request, they came out with a shorter rod after the release of the first series of X-Terras.) The stock X-Terra rod is about an inch longer than the stock White's rods that you might be familiar with. If you do find your X-Terra rod to be too short, the White's rods are the same diameter and will fit the X-Terra. So you could substitute a White's tall-man's rod, with a couple modifications. The White's rods have a locking clip with two tabs. One protruding out of each side of the middle rod. The Minelab rod has one tab, protruding out the bottom of the middle rod. So to make the White's rod fit the X-Terra will require that you drill a hole in the bottom side of the White's rod, near the end of the rod, and either use the clip from the X-Terra rod or allow only one of the White's tabs to pass through the new hole. I've done this with a couple models of detectors and it is a simple procedure. One other difference is the diameter of the rod where it secures the coil. The White's rod is a bit narrower and will require both the White's washers and the X-Terra washers to stabilize the coil. Or you could use an extra set of White's washers to make it a tighter fit. I am 6'6" tall, weigh 250 lbs. I have my rod sucked up 2". You don't want to hold it too far away from ya. You will be wore out in no time!!-

Gee...How tall are you??? I'm 6' and I have the rod collasped to it's shortest position.

I've always heard how long the shaft is on the X-T 70 and yet at 5"6" my late issue X-T 70 fits me perfectly in the shortest position. Have often wondered if by chance ML sometimes sent the short length lower shaft assembly (the one they sell to customers) with some of their X-T's instead of the regular length lower shaft.

The I-deal is to make it a two peace rod and get rid of the middle piece...Did it with other detector's and work's good ,little lighter feel's better to me.HH......Hobby
