I recall that name as being a good brand for lenses....the price seems good as well........

Better double check my math but it has a 20.00 dollar rebate plus a 30 dollars visa card and a lens cleaning kit

The lens that it replaced is the same basic lens, only changed some trim on the lens. Below is a link that will give you some test results and etc. From what I can tell, it is probably an average lens, and will probably produce a decent picture, not the sharpest but acceptable. Thanks for posting the information/link, found it interesting. Kelley (Texas) :)

Thanks Kelly....of course quality is a key factor but im focused more on the budget aspect...everyones budget is different....hoping to find more quality stuff one of these days...
I figured 18-200 would cover a couple lenses too.

This lens is a decent lens, and the price is great. I happen to use a Sony 75-300mm kit lens that is probably of the same quality as the Tamron lens, and it will produce a decent picture if used properly. Bottom line, I think you could purchase this Tamron lens and have lots of fun with it. The 18-200mm is a good all purpose range and would be a good walk around lens mounted on your camera. Most of my lenses are older, used Minolta lenses that I purchased on eBay at good prices because I could not afford newer lenses...I have always had to operate on a budget. But you know what, I am having fun with what I have. Some of these old Minolta lenses produce some sharp pictures. Please remember, my statements are nothing more than my opinion, and others might not agree, sorta like which is better, a ford or a Chevrolet. Kelley (Texas) :)

Opinions are a good thing :) ...we all respect your opinions...when i post these items i dont research a whole lot on whether its a entry lens or not. Is there a place a reader can get a review of the lens and thus the reader can decide if this is the lens they must have or not?
i think i will try to find a review of the lens on CNET or ZDNET and a attach the link...
