Tape around edge of coiltec digger coil

What is the purpose of black tape around edge of the coil . Is it holding on a coil cover? Should I take off? thank you for your information.

Yes, it is holding the cover on, as well as sealing debris out. Best to leave it on for as long as it works. The cover won't stay on w/o it.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh when you say that the coil cover is taped on and you have to keep the tape on to keep the cover on

But on the other hand I never use coil covers so I guess that's ok if you have to use tape to keep the cover on

If you saw the coil Mark, you'd understand better. The bottom half of the coil is a smaller OD than the top half, so it essentially has a step in it. And the OD of the cover is the same as the top half of the coil, so when it's in place there is a small gap in the step. The cover doesn't snap into place, but a piece of black fabric reinforced
