Target hits

Bowie

New member
As I watch vids of the E-Trac in use, and I see someone swinging the coil and get a good response, and they go back over the target a couple more times (of course this is on a vid and Ive never been around an E_Trac and Im sure Im missing it somehow) it seems or sounds to me, that the response on the target is maybe delayed just a tad. I know with any one of my machines, when I sweep over a target I get a beep pretty quick. Is it just something Im missing by watching a vid??? Any of you use a MXT? How is the E_Tracs response to a MXT?
I have an E_Trac on the way, and have a lot of questions, some have already been answered on this forum and Andys book, and Im sure I will answer some of my own once I get a little practice time in.
Thanks,
John
One other thing, I have watched some vids, someone sweeping the coil and listening to the target responses. At times, at least, what I am hearing, I hear a high tone, but the person keeps on swinging and doesnt investigates that target, and from the sounds, Im sure they are in Multi tones, probably using conductive as well. Just curious why they didnt stop and investigate that high tone, or is it they have become so confident listening to the tones they can differentiate the hits of a high tone? Or maybe its my hearing, maybe having a hard time telling the difference in tones. Any of you use just the four tones??

I use Tone variability of 29 as do some others and will use two tone ferrous as well. My etrac, now about 5 weeks with it seems pretty fast. If you think any detector is lagging you need to slow down your swing speed. I will do 5 and 6 second swings when I use 2 tone Ferrous or TTF as some call it. The fastest detector I ever had was a Radio shack discovery 2000, a bounty hunter labled for RS. It didnt do as many in depth things before it (beeped). just up to 4 tones and and told nickle dime, zinc penny, copper penny, quarter, half and dollar. It also showed iron and foil, and screw caps and tabs. I also use a whites 5900 and a whites 6000 and they are both quick. Most likely the audio and video are not synced due to your computer, your internet connection, your router or other issues. You will love yours when it arrives. I was pretty proficient with it at about 2 weeks but am now way close to being a master at it. I can go into most conditions and find good targets. Idigid

You develop a swing with use
The targets are sound, numbers and position on view
When you move and you HEAR a sound that is a familiar GOOD SOUND you stop and go towards the sound
You move back to get a sense of where it is approximately so you can pin point if necessary all the while confirming the SOLID SOUND and location
More times than not when this is done I end up digging but not always if the "stars do not align", as in solid, tone, numbers and view location(possibly quick mask use)
I guess that adds another element but be patient it is a process and worth the effort
I hope this explanation helps but I know you will get it yourself with use and practice

Good Luck and HH

the beep he did not investigate did not repeat well enough to him (I'm guessing here of course). You will find with the machine set up "hot" (lots of sens) you will get little blips and beeps from things in the ground even at the end of your swing some times.......if you are swinging correctly you will be overlapping quite a bit and you will learn that you will go over that spot again and you have made a mental note of this spot on the first pass and report,,,, in your brain you will look for another beep at that spot on the next pass,,,,, if you get one THEN you need to hone in on it and see how well it sounds and repeats,,,,,, as far as the video and the timing thing I thing it's hard for you to see EXACTLY where the target is and that makes it hard to relate that to the beep and where the two meet JMHO,,, HH!

The e-trac gives you a lot of information. That is what I like about it! It might have been a 25-46 in VDI and sounded pretty good in audio, so he tried it from different angles and decided it was a rusty nail, and not a quarter 12-46.

IDP, If you have been using the E-Trac for less than 6 weeks and think you are a master, it might just be that you have great soil. Yes you can start killing it in only a few weeks, but a master is someone that can push the limits. I just learned last week that nails null in the middle of a tone more than coins. I wish I could stop detecting long enough to spend time in a test garden.

grouser, I think maybe you got it right and since its a vid, its much harder viewing than real time. I dont have an E-Trac yet, but I have been detecting for numerous years. Just trying to get a handle on some things that may help me once I get out with the E-Trac. Yes, Ive done that many times, get a good sound but not really up to the target and swing a few more times until my coil hits it dead center, then I can move around it and check it out, maybe switching to all metal etc, just trying to determine to dig or not.
Thanks,
John
