TDI for the beach

New member
I'm looking to buy a PI detector for the beach as we have Heep's of black sand would the TDI be a opinion if I'm not heading in to the water?
or do you think it's a bit over kill, any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers Ronnie

Hi Mesha
I would go with the Garrett Infinium for beach hunting. the only beach hunting I do is on my Gold claim where the creek runs through it, but it is still wet. I have both and used the TDI up on the dry bench gravels and the Infinium for wet work. The TDI cost me 1500.00 and I don't get it near water, The Infinium is made for wet work and cost me 600 and will do anything the TDI will and it has auto ground tract, and reverse iron disc and is water proof. There seams to be better hunting in the water for the beachs it seem, and if that TDI gets wet I'm not sure Whites would fix it, even as good as their service is. But that is up to you, If you plan to hunt relics and coins on dry land then the TDI would be the best choice, the Infinium will do that also but has the ablity to deal with the surf and water.

Don't forget the Whites Dual Field Pi, its made for the water/beach and is very deep

I have used both the TDI and the Infinium on the beach that has alot of black sand. The TDI works great on the beach. I have found a few rings and ear rings DEEP. Most of theem were small rings children and small ladys wedding bands. Very strong machine. Just don'r get it wet. thanks

Thanks for the info guys. One more quick question how does the LS and the TDI compare head to head apart form the water capability's?
I would nice to have both but the minister of finance/leader of the opposition/wife wont allow it :argue::cheekkiss::inlove:

Thanks for that ColoradoGoldMan and everyone . You or anyone, comparing the TDI and Infinium LS head to head. Which one has more raw depth??

(Round TDI 12" coil vs Infinium LS 10x14" coil.)

I always have problems ground balancing my TDI below the high tide line where the sand is wet, I end up having to turn down the gain ta bit to acheive ground balance.

Hi David.
Impossible to do. These two machines are night and day that is why I have both. Each as it's pros and con's. There is just many variables to compare these detectors in that way. All I can say is that in my test garden in my soil and on the same size target, same soil condition, same shape, and same orientation, there is not a measurable red curly hair difference between the two detectors. For work around, near, or in water the Infinium goes with me, In dry, no possible rain, snow, hail, or wet stuff the TDI goes. I have never found any thing significant with either detector after going back over an area, after searching with the other.
Good Luck
