Tech question for Cody and others

OK, it's been kind of slow here lately so I was thinking about detectors that have a disc. turn knob only and if it would be possible to attach some sort of meter to it to gain information from the signal. Everyone knows that as one increases the dial clockwise it takes a signal higher in conductance for the detector to respond. I don't very much about electronics so forgive my ignorance but doesn't the dial either constrict voltage or amps or ohms? I guess that the dial is connected to some sort of circuit and maybe that is where a meter(vu or other) could be connected instead to it but the question remains. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried to do something like that. If it is possible then it could open up all kinds of possibilities including connecting some circuit gismos to it and creating tone changes of various widths. Yes it may be easier to just buy a detector with the features but it would sure make a interesting hobby tinkering with detectors that don't have meters or the like. Well, don't take this too serious, I was just day-dreaming.

I think that is what is done with the Sovereign. The data can be tones or readings on a meter. I have looked inside of the meter on the sovereign and it is very simple. There is a resistor on the back of the meter to set the digital readings.

So, the answer is yes you could get a digital meter and play about with that and set it up the way you like.

The minelab Sov is the only detector I know of that seperates the ground signal from the target signal on different wires.

Other detectors use the same wires for both so any meter you attach will show a composite target-ground signal reading.
