Technetics Coil repair

jabramson

New member
Hello everyone,

My primary land machine is a Teknetics T2, recently I had my stock coil go bad. It gives a high reading (94 usually) when it touches the ground while searching and readings jump all over even lightly touching the coil with my hand. I swapped the stock coil with 15 inch coil, no issue, works fine.

I was hoping Teknetics could repair or exchange the coil (not in warranty). I like the smaller coil for most hunting situations.
Problem is, I have called them four times and nothing. The first time it rang forever, second time I was told they would transfer me, disconnected. Third time, left a voicemail. They called back, transferred me, disconnected. Last time I was told they would transfer me, disconnected. Emailed them, they call me, tell them what I am needing, transferred me, disconnected....

Does anyone know if it is worth me sending them a coil not in warranty for repair? The cost? Should I just buy a third party coil?

Thanks,
john

They just moved to a new facility. Most likely having some technical problems with their phone system. The problem with your coil sounds lake a shielding issue. They repaired mine some time ago having the same issue and it's been working fine ever since. Being out of warranty it will probably cost a little but not as much as a new coil. Keep calling and tell the receptionist not transfer your call and tell her why.

Brand new factory, it's taking a long time to get all the infrastructure bugs worked out. Ya gotta drag contractors into it, it's not "I'll grab a #2 Philips and fix it myself" thing. The noncommunication thing was almost certainly a telephone issue. There's also been a problem with people trying to catch up after 2 to 6 weeks off work because they didn't have a usable office, and/or everything was still in boxes. I still haven't gotten everything unloaded, but when it's 35 pounds on a top shelf and I'm in a wheelchair the going is slow.

Meanwhile, let's cut to the chase, John. Call the factory and order a new standard T2 coil. Tell them Dave Johnson will pay for it, said so himself on the Findmall Teknetics forum in your (John Abramson's) thread.

Now here's a funny part, speaking of phones. They'll have to either take your word for it, email me to verify, or Google this this thread. I don't have a company phone. Not an oversight or screwup, it's by intent.

Everyone, (especially Dave)

So, I just got off the phone after speaking with Teknetics.
Guys says my new coil will be in the mail today.
I must say this is way above anything I could have hoped for.
I am more than impressed with everyone's response to my request.

You can be sure I will be singing Teknetics praises for a long time.

Regards,
John

Wow, not that I’d ever expect such customer service, but sure makes me feel great about the Patriot and F75+ package I recently bought.

Have been a long time F T Fisher/Tek user and have nothing but the best to say for their product and service. HH jim tn

Another great example of why I'll only buy First Texas products. Best in the business in standing behind their products.

My thanks again to Dave and Teknetics, I received my new coil and took it for a spin over the weekend.
It works great, so much nice than my old coil. Now only if the rain would stop.

You guys have a lifelong customer.

Regards, John

The ear is broken off on my Teknetics G2. Customer service said no repair available. Go buy another coil ! Not good relations!! The ears on these are as cheap and flimsy as it gets, very thin. I'll have to get some ABS and repair it myself. But, it will be beefed up and thicker. I bought a NEL Sharpshooter 9.9x5.5"; I gained 3 more inches as per air test. I wouldn't buy another Teknetics or Fisher coil, even at 1/3 of the price!!

I know of no detector company which offers repair service on broken coil ears. If your coil is out of warranty, either repair by you or some other third party or replacement are your only options. For a factory repair you would have to pay shipping both ways plus the labor charge - likely more than the cost of a new coil.

ABS is usually what coil bodies are made of. I have had good luck using acetone as a cement on such repairs - although I have had dozens of First Texas coils and have never found their coil ears to be less robust than other makes and have never had to fix one of theirs.
