Tejon-Thoughts

feedback on Tejon anyone?

how does it do on deep silver coins?

how does it do on gold jewelry?

what coils do you use for silver coins? what coil for gold?

cheers for the feedback :clapping:

Amberjack, I found the Tejon a great coin machine, but I think where it shone for me was in the small silver chain department...for some reason I dug quite a number with the Tejon, none of these at the beach, all inland and none of them on top of the ground. I tested it against other machines I have, and it produced coins equal to any of them over the period of a month. If you live anywhere near goldfields, I think it would be good there with a DD coil. It is primarily a relic machine, but it is also a good coin and jewellery machine, and the double disc is a feature that is handy in those "oh so trashy" areas. I am in Aus. and it worked well for me here.

very interesting feedback i have never read anyone say that about a machine re: silver chains, very encouraging, encouraging all around report :clapping: thanks for that !!

anyone else got comments lets build a report for the Tejon? yes?

i asked a few people who know? all don't know each other and tossed up this machine and another brand similar price and they all recommended the other machine which shall remain nameless ( i will add it may be good for others) but for me it is like driving a bus with flat tires!! tones are long and slow return speed slow, 20 different things to look at on a screen, i am comparing this to my Cibola and other fast machines that i own. what i am saying with all of my ignorance is i realised after buying the nameless machine is i love the fast machines with the cracking tones and sharp fast signals that tell me more than any screen.

so needless to say i am out 1K and now am buying the machine i wanted in the 1st place the Tejon i just love the lock beep dig machines and screens and numbers i have learnt are not for me slow me down and mean nothing quite a hindrance really, and i am talking about me here no body else so if you like screens and numbers please do not let my post or hunting needs put you off :clapping:

i went and looked at my detectors all are one tone beep and dig machines DOH and i go buy something the complete opposite no wonder i don't like it and the others are all fast, guess leaning my hunting style is a process and takes time to understand all detectors are not created equal, looks like i have become a Tesoro man :clapping:

footnote: i will keep the nameless machine for the beach because it is deep i will say that for it so it will be a beep dig everything machine in the dry sand.

OK my thoughts over :clapping:

amberjack, I forgot to mention that I have taken my Tejon to the beach a few times, dry sand only, but it performed very well...good depth...used mainly a 10" x 5" eliptical DD coil...if Tesoro have a cleansweep coil for that line of detectors (Vaquero, Cibola Tejon etc) then the machine would be a killer on the beach. Did not try it in wet sand or water, but I know my Eldorado works fine in wet sand and water (salt), not great depth, but it picks up shallw stuff, so I imagine the Tejon could do the same.

You can get a cleean sweep coil for it. http://www.tesoro.com/product/coils/

My experiences; I found the Tejon to be a nickle killer. It air tests deeper on nickles than on quarters and my experience hunting with it in mostly medium to mild ground is similar to the air tests.

Not only sensitive to small link silver chains, but also gold chains and small pieces of gold like the earring backs.

I like the Tejon with the 5.75 inch concentric in high target density / trashy areas. In open sports fields I like the cleansweep for coverage. Clean sweep is an inch less deep than the 5.75 and another inch less than the standard coil in air tests, but for most jewelry that is found on the sports field the cleansweep is plenty deep.

Cleansweep coil (3.6 x 18 inches) is great for dry sand areas of the beach. At salt water beaches, the Tejon does not come close to ground balancing to the wet salt so it only finds fairly shallow targets over the wet areas of the salt water beaches I've taken it to.

love to hear about the chains very nice and i thought with the higher frequency it would do well on gold so if i can just sell the bus now i can pay off the rest of the tejon and do some real hunting love the cleensweep coil, now if i can just figure out how to use Cibola and Tejon together i will be in metal detecting heaven.

thanks for the input tvr great stuff :clapping:

Very good machine. I used the Vaq. about 4 years. Bought the Tejon read all I could about it. Called Tesoro for some tips. After you learn all the squeaks, tics, moans and chirps are normal. Then I settled down knowing the machine wasn't broken. A very sensitive machine. Ground balancing is very important or you will be digging every false sound. Sometimes it takes a little bit to balance but worth it. I keep my disc. turned down just below f on foil. The more I keep using it I slowly turning it down more. I have found this site from another Tejon user very good info! Tips and Tricks with the Tesoro Tejon ubuntuone.com/p/Ttt/File (PFD) its about 15 pages. I don't know how many times I have read through this info realizing my detector wasn't broken it was just me! We dig sand, sandy lome, black dirt and hard clay here in Okla. Each one has a different effect on sound and depth. We do more relic hunting. I always say if it's copper, brass or lead. You will find it. Have fun! Very good machine.

thanks for the feedback guys very much appreciated.

i have a gold bug pro so used the ticks pops and every other strange sound so should be fine with that, just wanted a similar machine with more coil options plus i love Tesoros next a golden i think :lmfao:

I put in a test garden early this year. Clad Quarter at 8", clad dime at 7.5", nickel 7.5", and a copper penny at 7". The Tejon I had with 9x8 would not hit the quarter at 8" or the dime at 7.5". It did hit softly on the nickel and penny. My ground in northern Michigan is mild. I wanted to try it with 10x12 sef DD coil but a different opportunity came up.

I still liked the Tejon a lot. Separation in trash was awesome. I would say better separation than the AT Pro I have. It had a language you learn over different targets. Great relic hunter. Easy to hunt with. I will get another Tesoro sometime when I can.
