Tek coil question

D&P-OR

Well-known member
Which coil gets the best depth (on the same target & in like conditions & settings)----the 8" round concentric or the 10" elliptical concentric?

Probably not a lot of diff in that area D&P-OR but i sure like the 10 inch elliptical on my Omega a little more coverage with it maybe plus i like the looks of it lol.Monte and a few others have tested each much more in sure and maybe they will post a response to your question..Hope you have a great weekend....Markmac

It's always been eluded to by Companies that a 2" larger coil will get about 20% more depth. If they are talking 8" then that's only about 16 tenths more depth. Or rounded out 1 1/2 inches. Not enough to worry about in most hunting areas. But an inch lower in the right conditions can get a few older coins..depending on sink rate and age of site.. Remember concentric is like an inverted triangle. Max depth may only have a 1 inch circle penetration at the bottom of the cone . It's a hit or miss deal with only a 1" area of detection at max depth..

at two different sites, and using the Gamma and Omega and switching the coils between them, it was very, very close. On located, naturally lost targets I feel I might have had slightly better 'depth' from the sub-10" elliptical concentric.

The two differ not just in the shape of the entire coil, but both the Tx and Rx windings. I noticed the best difference in performance between these two models when they had the elliptical coil on because it separated much better in the trashy foil, pencil tops, more foil) coin producing site compared to the 8" round coil. The 8" round concentric was slightly easier to PinPoint with, but not by much once you learn the elliptical. Overall depth was very slow, but when I felt there was a bit of an 'edge' it favored the elliptical coil.
