Teknetics 11DD coil question

Reeseb

Member
Hi guys. My coils has always had a soft caulk on it a shown in the picture. Is this normal? It was bought from Kellyco 6 months ago. Anyone else have the same?

I currently have the detector for sale in the classifieds section and am worried that this may freak out the buyer.

Thanks!

atleast not from the half dozen or so Teks I owned that had 11" DD. They all had a snice small bead of a hard black sealant around that seam. That looks like plain old silicone....and if it is it will leak. Silicone does NOT adhere to ANY plastics worth a hoot. Great on glass but not plastics.
Of course maybe the pic is misleading but I have never seen a soft flexible silicon style sealant on any of my 11" DD coils..Tek or Fisher..plus it looks hacked......cause usually First texas does a spanking nice job on sealing their coils...that looks like a blind 6 year old used a caulk gun from Lowes.
Problem would be if I was the buyer of your detector it would certainly appear to be a hack repair by someone (non OEM). Not accusing anyone obviously but you have reason to be concerned if you did not notify the buyer first.
I would think either contact K-Co and get a replacement or make sure you clearly explain this to the buyer. If I bought it and you explained it first than I would be less concerned.

This is what mine looks like, it actually doesn't have any caulk on it.

Hi Reeseb, I just looked at my coil and it sure don,t look like that. I think someone has fixed it and sent it back to Kellco. Hope you can get it taken care of, with a new coil from them. Flintstone

Nothing to lose....and silicone won't adhere to plastic..hence the peeling along the edges.

That is unless K-Co is taking it back then why bother. But if not then peel it off....won't hurt...and possible some tardo simply thought it was a good idea to add it. If you do remove it you should have a small bead of a hard black sealer under there.

Thanks, guys. I removed the silocone and there was a hard black, welded plastic seal under it. I think the previous owner added it as a precaution for water hunting.
