Teknetics Classic Question

Fish N Chips

New member
I was checking out the "new" T2 classic, that is a great price on the re-release. The package deal is very tempting with the small 5" coil, and maybe the 15" coil. I have seen Beau Ouimette and Bill Ladd use them in their videos with good success for deep relics. I was going to get a Whites MXT, but was surprised at the weight of the detector (well compared to my Tesoros) when I went to look at some. There is a E series for sale for 300 dollars locally, but I was considering the Makro Racer eventually for the lower weight and performance in iron; but now wonder if this would be a well priced option with similar performance?

I would like to get something to compliment my Tesoro detectors; to be able to cherry pick somewhat when I do not have a lot of time to hunt, and something I can chase deep silver with at the old ferry landings and old parks.

I primarily hunt old homesteads, farms and stage stops. An occasional ghost town. All with lots of iron junk, square nails and some round nails. I hunt parks occasionally, but they are not my favorite. Although a deeper detector may be able to pull some old silver from these hard hit parks. How does the T2 classic do with pull tabs and bottle caps? I can not complain about my Tesoro's at all, I have gotten good at deciphering what they tell me. I would just like to add something different to the arsenal to play with. I am in no hurry, and always tend to over research and analyze everything, lol

So what does everyone think of this re-release, was there much of an upgrade from the older models, or would I be better off finding an older T2 LTE or SE, or maybe Fisher F75 and saving some money? I read some of the other posts on the machine but was hoping to hear how it does in the iron. I saw Bill Ladd's video on iron hunting, but he has a lot of experience on his side :)

I hate metal detector shopping, there are simply too many options out there!

Thanks!

You can't get more bang for the buck than the deal going on right now for this T2.

The T2 Classic for the price i dont think can be beaten performance wise especially with the stock and the 5'' coil as that cover most needs that detectorists require, one thing i suggest you do straight away is forget about that 15'' coil option as that in my mind was the biggest white elephant that Teknetics have bought out and although it may go deeper than the stock coil the weight issue is the killer with this coil, trust me its a killer weight wise and will end up being sold.

As a general all round detector it ticks most of my boxes for my type of detecting from not only doing trashy sites with the 5'' coil which is a pure joy to use and get in between the trash like no other machine but then when used with the stock coil can be used for deep targets, its such a versatile machine and the weight is feather weight, easy of use well although its not a super duper slot saving machine for storing all your settings it take all of just seconds to install your settings and you are then away detecting.Alot of machines these days that have a screen can take minutes to get set up and you spend alot of time altering the settings, but with the T2 Classic when i mean its seconds its just that.

Mine is about 2009 vintage but looks like brand new although its had 1000s of hours on the clock, its also found me my best finds including it really loves cold coins this has included my oldest gold coins to date Celtic gold staters full and 1/4 staters going back to 55BC,it really sniffs these gold finds out.

If you do go for the latest Classic T2 you wont regret it,its a no thrill work horse of a machine at a super bargain price,in my mind it was a superb move to bring back a proven classic machine which offers top flight performance for not alot more than some other entry machines.

I appreciate the advise on the 15". There are very few areas around me I could use a coil that size anyways. I think I would save some money and just get the small 5" coil with it. I was watching a lot of videos last night on the performance and setting. Probably the only think I wish it had was a back light and maybe a notch feature to cherry pick parks, but I use a headlamp at night anyways due to all the rattlesnakes in my area. I like the iron audio. Is the iron audio pre-set, or can you turn up the break to sound off at different levels? I do like the simplicity of the machine. What depth is everyone getting on coins, buttons and bullets? My Eldorado and Silver Umax average around 6-7 inches, with an occasional 8 inches on large silver.

Thanks

I cherry pick with the F75 and use the DP (Delta Pitch) tones. I think but am not sure the CLassic T2 has DP tones. If so you could try them tones . GS
