Teknetics T2 best price???

New member
I am now considering adding a T2 to my arsenal and was shopping online for best price. Found two places that have it new for 550-590$. Thoughts?

That sounds kind of cheap...Beware of imitations. And make sure its the 6.5 if its the regular T2..

I think a reputable dealer will not be less than 850....free shipping

I asked an ebay seller about one of these six hundred dollar units to see if it was the 6.5 version and I never got a response.
I used a T2 with the older software for about three months and I am missing that machine, terribly! I guess going through a reputable seller is the only way to be sure of what you're getting? If buying used what would you expect to pay for one in good condition?

I think a lot of customer's are waiting for someone to step up and explain exactly what's going on with these discounted T2s.The problem of buying a possible fake is hurting sales and the resale value.Unless there is a detailed description of the differences the buyer isn't assured that paying more will insure the product is any different than the discounted unit.It may be a very complicated problem, but still needs to be addressed.

I first started dealing in detectors in 1977 carrying the Garrett line. In the years that followed I switched my primary line to Gold Mountain due to the VIP Deluxe, a great 2-coil VLF/TR model. Then to Tesoro, mainly, and could also sell Teknetics, Fisher, and some others. I stopped dealing in Tesoro November of 2004 when things had virtually dried up around here (NW Oregon) for non-display models or those that didn't work. I have quite a few friends and acquaintances who are detector dealers, some for only one brands and others are multi-line.

Often a dealer cruises along with a lot of business in a particular line or, more specifically, a particular model or two. Then, along comes a new entry or two after they have money tied up in other product some they will turn it very cheaply. I don't think it is a 'fake' issue as much as a dealer with money tied up in several models, like the T2, and they have had them around because sales interest in something else (such as the Teknetics Omega). With a lot of orders and questions about the Omega or Gamma or Delta, and now even the G2, some interest in the T2 has waned in some areas. So, if a Dealer has an older T2, or has had a lot more interest in other Tek. models, they will turn a T2 at a bargain just to try and get some money to help with their orders/bills.

Small scale dealers, especially, run into this and there can be bargains.

Just some thoughts because I've seen it ..... often.

8 months ago it was hard to get a T2..There was some sort of gold rush i believe. When i bought my regular T2 i asked the dealer if he would work with me on the price. Now im not sure this is bull but he told me that first texas would not allow dealers to sell the T2 for less than the $850.00 that i paid..
Well it just crossed my mind so i figured i would ad it.
The only thing that i can say is buy it from a reputable dealer. They come with a five year warranty if you send it in and they tell you its a fake..A good dealer will make good on it...

I mean that is SOME cases there MIGHT BE a FEW dealers who have invested in some inventory, but for whatever reason THEY are now DESPERATE to sell off some of their stock ... even at or near cost sometimes! This time of year we ought to know that not all 'Sale' prices really mean a great deal, and we also know many people buy something due to price that really isn't quite what they really need or want.

Yes, there are some good deals. Yes, many cane be legitimate products sold by a dealer who needs to turn them. In the end, just make sure what you're buying is really something that you are interested in that will do what you need it to.

I was told by a reputable dealer that they could sell cheaper but not advertise cheaper and like Monte said if they can move older stock with less profit margin that is better than just setting on the shelves. JMO

The current version on just produced T2's is: V 6.0.

This is from brand new manufactured units, I just recently received from the manufacture for selling stock.

T2's are sold all over the world, and some of these version numbers were for the marketing dept. to know where they were shipped. Sometimes in a jam, they get shipped stateside. I believe the V6.5 was intended for the European market???

I can't remember for sure what the difference was with the T2 I was using, but it seems like it was with what number you were running it in? I think it offered, 1, 2 and 2+ but I'm not positive of that. I do remember looking at a manual online trying to figure out how to use it and the manual said there was another number function maybe 3? That was when I took note of people mentioning the latest version and I assumed the one I was using was the older version. Can someone tell me what the difference is?
Thanks, Mark

They say the only difference is the 6.5 starts in all metal and the 6.0 starts in discrimination..
I like my new T2 special edition because i mostly use disc and all the se start in disc and have the 6.0.
While your turning on the detector hold the select button and push the trigger forward and see what version it is..

Those numbers you posted look like the audio process numbers. The numbers represent how many Target tones you receive when in the discriminate mode, and sweep the coil over a target.

Thanks for the reply. I went back and re-read the manual. The manual available online is for the 6.0 version and the numbers I mentioned were for the number of tones. The unit i was using offered 1, 1+, 2+ and 3. The manual says it also offers 3b (bottle cap mode) 4 (four different tones) and dp (delta pitch) Neither of these last three were available in the menu unless it was user error. I remember looking into this now because of the amount of bottle caps I was digging in places I'd never dug any before with other machines. I finally figured out that the number being ID'd would not stay constant over these bottle caps if the coil was wiggled around a little while going over the target.
This just leaves me with more questions now. If it were not user error, then why did the menu not offer 3b, 4 and dp mode when the manual say's it's available in the 6.0 version? I'd be interested to know if others with these detectors have those options for the other tones in their menus.
The only thing I know for sure is I miss the detector. I found more silver coins with it than any of the other five detectors I've used since I started a few years ago. It was a loaner though and had to go home :(
