I first started dealing in detectors in 1977 carrying the Garrett line. In the years that followed I switched my primary line to Gold Mountain due to the VIP Deluxe, a great 2-coil VLF/TR model. Then to Tesoro, mainly, and could also sell Teknetics, Fisher, and some others. I stopped dealing in Tesoro November of 2004 when things had virtually dried up around here (NW Oregon) for non-display models or those that didn't work. I have quite a few friends and acquaintances who are detector dealers, some for only one brands and others are multi-line.
Often a dealer cruises along with a lot of business in a particular line or, more specifically, a particular model or two. Then, along comes a new entry or two after they have money tied up in other product some they will turn it very cheaply. I don't think it is a 'fake' issue as much as a dealer with money tied up in several models, like the T2, and they have had them around because sales interest in something else (such as the Teknetics Omega). With a lot of orders and questions about the Omega or Gamma or Delta, and now even the G2, some interest in the T2 has waned in some areas. So, if a Dealer has an older T2, or has had a lot more interest in other Tek. models, they will turn a T2 at a bargain just to try and get some money to help with their orders/bills.
Small scale dealers, especially, run into this and there can be bargains.
Just some thoughts because I've seen it ..... often.
