Teknetics warranty transferrable???

Not stupid. Its business. I don't think we have a clue what the costs and headaches of service are. Nor what idiots do and expect the manufacturer to fix for free. I suspect FT does not mind providing what they consider affordable support, but do you think they should bankrupt the company to keep eBay buyers from eating a bad purchase? I paid for my 2 year old ID Edge repair and thought they were reasonable in the amount charged. With the number of machines they have made, open free repair would be prohibitive. Gripe all you want, I just don't believe it is possible. Live with it.

I would like to see a transferable warranty ( especially since I recently bought a like new used T2) . I think it is a good selling point for a detector and I believe it shows that the manufacturer has more confidence in their product and more concern for the users of their products . Just my two cents worth .

I don't think Tesoro's lifetime warranty is feasible in today's business climate, but a 2-5 year transferrable warranty that follows the machine, not just to the original owner, is fair....and would get a larger following for that manufacturer. I know it influences my buying decisions. Bob.

should be good for the length of the time frame...no matter who owns it. Like a car. I never said anything about an open time frame. Tesoro has a lifetime policy...which I think is an unwise decision on their part. But they do have a lot of customer loyalty from it. If it's a well made product, the % that need fixing should be small. Abuse is a different issue altogether. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and HH. Bob.

Hey Bob,
I'd like to think that's how I would do it too. I suspect that verifying ownership is a pistol. As I recall Teknetics does not do serial numbers on their units. I don't know how they verify original owners. I am not trying to justify non support of expensive tools. I just think we don't see things from their side at all. I would guess First Texas outsells Tesoro maybe 100 to 1 (who knows?). My impression is they do the best they can, any more and they risk viability. Maybe I am too trusting, but I get the impression if they could more they would. Just my take on it.

They should stand behind their product regardless of who owns the detector during the warranty period. It appears they're just trying to get out of extra warranty work. Not a bad tactic if they think the product might have some problems during the warranty period. Construction quality is not exactly on par with Tesoro or Whites, even though their engineering is superb. They make great detectors that work really good, but quality construction is lacking apparently to save on cost.

I would assume that First Texas uses a warranty reserve system, which effectively applies a percentage of each sale to an account of funds to be applied towards future warranty work. So in effect the warranty has already been paid for by the consumer, but FT is able to set the terms of warranty ownership. Does this affect sales? Probably on the used detector market, difficult to tell on the new product market. It is interesting to note that both Garrett and Minelab now have transferable warranties, which IMHO is a good business practice, at least as far as building consumer confidence in a product or company is concerned.

Pasttom, the warranty is validated & verified by submitting a copy of the sales receipt one time, to First Texas.

My take on a non-transferrable warranty is different. My perspective is that having a non-transferrable is used to generate sales of new units. There are alot of people that want a particular unit from a particular mfg. They also want warranty coverage. They will spend the extra $1-200.00 for a warranted unit instead of used. Its not about trying to get out of warranty coverage or shoddy workmanship IMHO. Will First Texas follow suit now that most of the major mfg's are opting for transferrable warranties? That remains to be seen.
Did Minelab recently elect to do transferrable warranties out of benevolence to the customer. I think not. Probably more like they are losing market share and needed a strategy to help offset the losses. Again, IMHO.
