Tesoro 7" Wide Scan - any advantage?

vito

Well-known member
Hello.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a 7-inch wide scan coil compared to an 8-inch concentric coil?
I look forward to your opinions.

I used 1 for a while on a GS 2. I thought it was very good. I could max out the sensitivity using it and it was still very quiet and deeper than my 8" concentric and a lot better in the trash. I sure regret selling the unit. I also tried an 8.5 DD but it didn't perform nearly as well. I found a lot of old coins with it.

The Wide Scan is pretty heavy for its size, the 8 inch not so much. The 7 separates very well and seems as deep in my heavily contaminated sand. In the less contaminated parks and lawns, the 8 is deeper. It doesn't pick out nonferrous in iron or close to pull tab as well as the 8 but it is still better at both than most of my dozen or so detectors. I use the 8 inch more but my favorite is the smaller 6 inch coil. I don't think Tesoro made a sub par coil but I admit I am a Tesoro "fanboy".

The Widescan was designed for mineralized soil.

The Concentric is best in mild soil.
Around here I love the 5-8" coils.

I have both DD and concentrics for most of my machines.

The DD's by design are heavier.

Thanks a lot for your wisdom and insight. I really appreciate that.
Now knowing the facts you mentioned I think I'll let this one go.
