Tesoro Cibola :tesoro::usaflag: Silver Galore / First Seated Dime:detecting:

I hit a new site this morning to see what I could find. It started out slow. I was finding nothing but clad coins (14 quarters) and loads of wall brick ties. I had to empty my junk pouch twice in a nearby dumpster. They were giving me fits. My first good find was a big ole silver ring. It's not stamped, a magnet won't stick to it and it discriminates out at nickel. It's not plated, I don't know what it's made of. Second good find was a Sterling Baby Ring. It hit real good and was fairly deep. I kept finding a bunch of wheat pennies so I knew that there had be silver there as well (1953, 1944, 1945, 1950, 1944, 19??, 1945, 1940, 1955, 1930*, 1950, 1945, 1959). I found what appeared to a cutoff clothesline post sticking up about inch out of some concrete. I guessed which way the clothesline used to run and headed that way. I got good signal right off and unearthed a Washington Quarter, a Mercury Dime, a Rosie and 1956 Jefferson Nickel from a coin spill. That put a big smile on my face.:) About 20 feet further down, I got another sweet soft audio tone and popped a 1915 Barber Dime and a 1876 Seated Dime that were stuck together. That put a even bigger smile on my face. Another few feet away, I got another good audio signal and popped a 1941 Mercury Dime. I'm a happy camper. I got to thinking that there has to be a War Nickel around here somewhere and guess what? My very next good target was a 1945 War Nickel. I'm on a roll! Finally on my way back to the car, I got another good signal and dug down around 7 inches a popped a 1944 Georgivs VI Half Penny. I had a pretty good day and I know there's more good stuff hiding in all that thrash. I just got to get to digging.

I just love my Tesoro detectors.:)

Sounds like you had a very good day, that 1944 'Ship' half penny could well have been bought back from the UK by a service person as that would have been issued during WW2.Does make you wonder how these find get found in different countries.

The NEL Sharpshooter is still one of my all time favourite coils,i have one on my T2 but have been thinking about getting one for my B3 which is a Tesoro made machine for the UK market.

Awesome hunt Gerald! You really knocked it out of the park with the coin spills today! How did that first coin spill sound with the 3 silvers and Jeff nickel? Was it a broken signal or a solid tone? Again, one heckuva hunt there congrats! :beers:

Thanks. They were bunched tight together and gave off a strong smooth audio signal. Taylor you got me fired up with all your great finds yesterday.:beers:

You found four different silver dimes. Thats fantastic and the ring sure looks silver.

Whaaaa! Amazing! Congratulations on that Dime Grand Slam there buddy! Theres guys that have been hunting all their lives that have not punched that ticket yet, so its a real trophy day for you and all of your Tabman Fans here in the bleachers!..:buds:..:puke:

ALSO...if you found a 1959 Wheatie...its worth well over 100 grand, maybe more like a million...said to be mythological in the numismatic society, there has only been one ever known of. (I'm hunting for the other:rofl:)

FWIW..that big ring that sounds like nickel is either Stainless Steel or something..:sadwalk:.the big ones that sound like silver but are not marked are typically some sort of chromium...
Mud

ps...you should also post this remarkable day up on Todays Finds forum...it will drive a few guys right off the rails for sure!

Yeah, the NEL Sharpshooter coil does the trick. It's covers a lot of ground fast and is small enough to still be able to pick through the trash. It's handles EMI great!

The Tesoro 5 x 10 coil does a good job as well. I just like the looks of the Sharpshooter better, but it doesn't glide as well over the grass and the spoke openings will hang up sometimes on thick under brush. At any rate, they're both good coils.

Fantastic hunt ! in over 28 years I scored that dime quadfecta only once. You obviously have patience - what a pile of junk you had to dig to to prove out that site.
WTG :super:!!!

Thanks. It didn't dawn on me at the time. That probably will never happen to me again. I said the same thing when I found a Half Reale, but I ended up finding another Reale a short time later. I'm lucky like that. :)

Thanks. I threw at least that much trash in the nearby dumpster. Except for the small pieces of wall ties, I pretty much knew that it was trash before I dug, but you just never really know until you give it the eye test. I figured that I needed to clean out all the trash to eliminate any possible masking. Those wall ties are much harder to deal with than ole rusty nails are, especially trying to pull them out of the hole. Their shape makes them hard to pull. Cherry pickers would have a hard time at this site.:)

Very impressed with your finds! I have only retrieved ONE silver dime in just over a year since picking up the hobby. I will be hunting this year more than ever as last year a good deal of the summer I was recovering from some surgery.
I aalso was interested in the T-handle tool you were using. Is that something home-made or is it available retail somewhere?
Gotta love the chlothes lines!

It's a modified 2 x 18 inch Wilcox's Trowel. It makes retrieving a target easy and fast. I have a trapper's trowel ordered that I'm going to modify also.

I wish that you could spend sometime on a few of the sites that I hunt. You'd blow my doors off. Location is key.

Get some good glue. I used Gorilla Glue. You might have to do some drilling and grinding to get things to fit together. There's two different types of PVC pipe and one of them has a larger inside diameter than the other one has. That T-handle sure makes digging easy.

Um, sorry, I forgot where you said that spot was??
Address please! Lol

Nice work, thanks for sharing!

Those dimes were minted 39 years apart, and judging from the wear on the barber it wasn't exactly hot from the mint when it was lost. I suspect probably sometime in the mid 1920's. Just goes to show how long seated coins circulated. And your seated dime has the wear to prove it.

Congrats on your grand slam.
