Tesoro Cibola

I am looking at a one year old Cibola for $250.00 with pinpointer and sand scoop ,is this a good price and would this be a good detector for a beginner hunting for coins and relics at old homesites and saltwater beaches in S.C.

All depends on the condition both cosmetic and functional. It just may be a great deal.

Thanks for all of the responses, would this be a good detector to use in my conditions, a beginner hunting for coins and relics at old homesites and saltwater beaches in S.C.

It will be fine for hunting those relics and coins because it usually can go deep in soil that is not highly mineralized, but at the saltwater beach it will work good in the dry sand but not good at all in the wet sand or the water.
Even the next model up the Vaquero with the added manual ground balance feature won't do much in that wet stuff or go very deep.

Otherwise, this is a quality unit and I would not consider this a true beginners unit by any means.

Would the learning curve be tough on a beginner

Well, there is no screen to give you any clues, (or make you believe in false indications either), so some say it might be a little longer curve to learn this language especially when you are brand new and have other basic things to learn.
Keep in mind, others have done it and enjoyed the whole experience and were glad they did.

I believe if you take the time to learn how to hunt the Tesoro way with sound, this can only give you the very best training in this hobby and give you a fantastic base to build on no matter what other detector you ever decide to swing in the future, if any...screens or no screens.

Welcome Cokerta,

The Cibola is what I use here in S.C. Have not had it on the beach as yet but it does a great job with relics and coins.

Learn the "round" sound it makes on good targets and dig all repeatable signals above your set disc point until you get some time on the machine.

Good luck, let us know how you get on with it.

Read the manual. Test some known targets. Go hunt hunt and learn the detector. Unless you have very bad ground a Cibola does a very good job finding targets. Easy to get started with. The more time you spend with it the better your finds become. At least that is how it worked out for me with a Cibola.
Cheers,
tvr
