<body background="http://www.wiredcafe.net/jbms/tesorobg.jpg">Is there anyone besides me that doesn't like the odd shaped coils that are standard on most new Tesoros? A coil is supposed to be round or eliptical dammit <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">. Not 8X9,10X12 or whatever. Nothing wrong with the way they perform, but the shape pizzes me off for some reason<img src="http://personalpages.bellsouth.net/j/b/jbms12/Gifs/angst.gif">. Actually, I think the 7 inch <I><B><FONT COLOR="#ff0000">round</FONT></B></I> concentric coil should be standard but that's just my preference for Tesoros. What do y'all think?

I think you should calm down, read, watch your language and do what ever makes you feel confident. Everyone no matter what hobby they are involved in has a go to something. Some fisherman have go to lures, or rigs, same with metal detecting. Find a coil that works and gives you confidence and go with it. I am new to hard core detecting, but have learned one thing know your detector and your settings. I am still learning mine and do have days when I lose confidence and days when I have confidence. Just use what works and makes you feel comfortable.

The 7" Shadow coil is my favorite.Small but sensitive.

I'm probably the calmest person south of New Jersey, but I still don't like the odd shaped coils<img src="http://personalpages.bellsouth.net/j/b/jbms12/Gifs/lmao.gif"><img src="http://personalpages.bellsouth.net/j/b/jbms12/Gifs/lmao.gif">.

Target separation isn't quite as good as the Tesoro 7" but it's close enough and has a tad better depth <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">.

never Thought about the coil being odd. It works just fine. <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin"> I will admit the 7" and CSC are my two favorite coils on the Eldorado.
Weather is turning and it may be a while before I can say on the Cortez(just got it).
But can think of no reason they won`t be on it as well.

as both my coils are round but...if anyone is really really annoyed at their odd shaped 10x12 feel free to send it to me and I'll try to put up with the odd shape.
hehehe... <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">

I prefer not to have a very open coil when hunting a lot of the brushy ghost towns I like to hit. Too many hang-ups!
Most places I enjoy hunting are trashier, so a smaller coil is in order.
Smaller coils can provide better balance and 'feel.'
Smaller coils work in between brush and building rubble better.
I prefer a 7" coil on most Tesoro's, and have for the past 20 years. I agree with you, I wish they were standard-issue on more models.
I prefer the thin-profile of the Tesoro water-unit coil, which was used for the design of the Super 7 Inch Shadow X2 coil. I just wish they would redesign the Tesoro coil and give us a WHITE coil rather than the black one in a thin-profile design!
Yes, I DO prefer the 7" Tesoro coil(s) in concentric design to the stock 8x9 OOR coils that are issued.

I use auto wax on my coils, shafts, digging tools to help keep them clean. Those spoked rascals are a pain in the buttocks to get a good coat on. Hmmmph.
