Tesoro Conquistador Brings Home The Gold & Silver:tesoro::usaflag:

I went out to a local park today and started detecting with a detector that wasn't a Tesoro. I was doing great with it. It would ID a nickel, dime, quarter and pull tab right on the money. It was almost ripping nickels (58 ID) right out of the ground it was hitting them so hard. Great detector! It was doing so good that I started talking myself out of digging targets that would ID as a pull tab (59 - 63). There were plenty of tabs and I was leaving them in the ground. I knew I would not find a gold ring if I didn't dig them, so I went back to the car and swapped detectors. I got out my trusty Conquistador. I set the discrimination to 'foil' and the sensitivity on '10' and started swinging. Right off the bat, I found a sterling earring and a bunch of pull tabs later I dug the gold ring. It was about 4 inches deep and it put a big smile on my face when it popped up. The date on it is 1947. When I got home I tested the gold ring to see what it would ID on the detector that I was first using. Yep you guessed it, 60, pull tab.

You have to dig some tabs to find gold rings.:)

Beautiful ring and ear ring tabman, as you know the Conquistador is one sweet detector, I loved my Conquistador

Nice finds tabman,

Are ya going to track down the owner of the ring? I've returned 9 out of 11 class rings I have found, sometimes it is very rewarding to return it to the rightfull owner, I made the headlines to two local newspapers that way, my 12 min. of fame:rofl:

Hombre, I would if I could, but there's no school name on it. I've never seen a ring like this before. It's old.

Man! I guess your not called Tabman for nothing! :clapping:You've had quite a run on the rings this year digging those tab signals...Hey, question, was this particular tab signal out of place? You know, all alone in a clear area or what?

There wasn't another target within a couple of feet of the gold ring, but there were plenty of tabs in the vicinity.

When I find a place to detect that has a bunch tabs, I know it hasn't been hunting out for gold jewelry or the tabs wouldn't still be there. :jump:

Gorgeous ring...congratZ!

Way to go Tabman. I wish the soil was more mild where I live. The Conquistador and the silver Umax seem amazing. I have tried detectors without manual ground balance in my area and they just do not work as well. Thanks for sharing your finds and knowledge of detectors on this site.

Thanks Dirtdigger33. The Vaquero, Eldorado Umax, Bandido II Umax, and Outlaw, all with a ground balance, are just as amazing when it comes to finding gold rings.

I've come to the conclusion that nothing that I have tried beats a Tesoro detector when it comes to finding gold rings.

The Conquistador is a great detector in areas with mild soil. However, being a preset ground balance model, mineralization can be an important issue in some areas. I often detect in parks and game fields that have mild soil as well as participating in several club planted hunts every year and the Conquistador has served me very well. I generally use it with the 7" concentric coil which gives good separation, decent depth and fairly good coverage.

I feel so lucky to live in an area that has mild soil.

Yes the 7" concentric coil is a very good coil, but I prefer the ole 8 inch brown doughnut coil.:)
