Tesoro Outlaw at a great price

I have an opportunity to pick up a like-new Outlaw from a very reputable source for $425. It's an open box demo and has everything you'd get with a new Outlaw (warranty, 3 coils etc). It seems like a great deal. To jump on this I would need to sell my Eldorado Umax (which I really like). As most of you are far more knowledgeable than I, Are the differences in the detectors significant enough to make this a no-brainer? I should state that I am just an occasional detectorist. Thanks for your input.

That's kind of a tough one. If it were me, I'd do my best to have both, then decide if I wanted to sell one or the other.

I was definitely thinking along those lines, just not sure I can swing it. In the short term, it may be a possibility. I just don't know if the different features/specs of the Outlaw are worth the upgrade for the occasional hobbiest.

I cant speak to the simialities of the two, but since you said you can swing owning both for the short term, maybe thats a way to find out! I got my Outlaw package for about 380$. I figured if it was too much of a learning curve, I could sell it and at least break even. I think youre in the same situation. If you dont see a big difference between the two, you can likely get your money back. A real good deal comes along every once in a while, but Tesoros seem to hold their value pretty well.

These two detectors are very similar. If you liked exploring wooded areas or large farm fields, then i would say go for the outlaw. But as you described, not much of a upgrade for you.I had a Eldo in 01 and it is a great detector. You want some new experience, make sure you have some coils to try out. There are so many,i know you can think of a few you would like to try.But wait!not so fast.It could be a great deal if you do not have the coils that come with the outlaw. :-D

Wow, where are you getting the great deals on the Outlaw packages guys!? No, don't say it here but pm me instead as I'm a lookin' for something coming this summer. Maybe both demo units is what I am thinking? I don't have either one yet but am snooping around for one but I would probably keep the Eldorado if it were me. Look at it this way; the Eldorado is no longer manufactured and it seems good, clean working units are only becoming harder to find. The Outlaw is still new and not going anywhere for a long time. I know you have likely been bitten by the new detector bug (I know I have been!) but I would keep what I had and sock some money away. Before you know it, you can buy the Outlaw package and still keep the Eldorado. After using it, then you can sale one if you really want to. That $425 sounds like a great deal though but thats my opinion for what it's worth.

I just happened to find a disgruntled owner ( I think ) at the right time who put his up for sale when the unit was still pretty new and getting some bad , er, "press". I didnt know anything but what Id read on the forums and saw on youtube, but figured it had to be worth at least what he was asking. Turns out, it was a very nice deal.

Keep both if you can, sell one if / when you have to.

I will buy youre eldorado if you decide to sell. If I had the eldorado I would just buy more coils.
