Tesoro Pros & Cons

 Okay, I'll start with the Pros first ( just to be nice):cheekkiss:

Pros:

lifetime warranty...a big plus
lightweight .....very important
good circuitry....works well
great factory customer support
10 khz frequency works good
backpackable units
simple to use...no confusion
good looking units...no weird designs
overall great little detectors

Cons:

limited accessories
expensive accessories
limited cool stuff...hats, t-shirts, etc.
no company made pinpointers
need to stop naming them after unpopular spanish & mexican stuff

Just my humble opinions so don't get upset. Happy Hunting.

Tesoro offers many different coils. Pinpointers can be gotten elsewhere.

Pros
Quick Target Response
Fast Recovery

Tesoro detectors does not require pinpointers, they are precise up to half an inch.
The detector itself doesn't need a pinpointer, however, I would not leave home without my handheld pinpointer. Makes finding the target, especially wheaties and IH cents that blend in with the soil, much easier to locate once out of the hole. Garrett has this covered.

Evidently the pros outweight the cons. Kind of hard to beat a Tesoro, regardless of the cons.

It's just one more thing to lug around that gets in the way.
Tesoro's pinpoint pretty close as it is.....

The Tiger Shark?

Pros:
1 Best Freshwater machine made and I own an Excal, which is the best saltwater machine other then a PI (Sand SharK) in areas with out lots of trash or iron.
2 Can change coils (I am looking for a clean sweep with the water proof plug on the end, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!)
3 Finds gold chains and smalls.
4 Hits hard on Platinum, I found a 7 gram platinum man's ring that nearly blew my ears off, returned it to a very happy person! (10" coil)
5 After you learn it, it is easy to discern iron and derivatives thereof.
6 I found the most friendly and helpful dealer on the planet looking for a Tiger Shark, Scully of Badger Detectors, in Madison Wisconsin! What a genuine person!
7 Works great on land too! I use it as a backup land/beach detector after my Sov GT

Cons:
1 I had to buy 2 of them after my daughter tried mine!

7 to 1 and the only con is my daughter conned me into another detector!

My opinion is based on actual use of the machines, not hearsay.

Kind Regards and have lots of fun!,
Steve

I agree.....I've been waiting for a silk screening shop to start a sideline metal detecting business so I'll finally have a place to buy t-shirts and hats, maybe some bloomers :drinking:

I'd bet if you found some Spanish or Mexican gold......you'd just leave it for the next guy, right? :poke:

There is a fella down in Florida that (his name is Bill) that makes window decals, shirts, etc. I had him make me a Tesoro Tejon shirt, very reasonably priced and looks great. He can make about anything you toss at him. Not trying to advertise for him or anything just thought I would let you's know that there is a place that can make you some cool stuff as I bet there are many of you like myself that are proud Tesoro users & can't get enough Tesoro, I am not going to guarantee that he will doTesoro bloomers though, lol.

 Hi Again, Thanks to all who commented on my post. I have owned just one Tesoro and it was a great little unit,...the original Silver Saber. I have been studying the Tesoro literature again and that is how I came up with my insights. There is no pinpointer shown in the full color brochure nor is there one shown in the MDI catalog. There are no hats, shirts, jackets, etc. in the color brochure either. The MDI ( metal detector information booklet by Tesoro) doesn't show wearables or pinpointers either. The Tesoro website shows a couple of T-shirts but that's all. The MDI says inside the cover page, " All Tesoro Metal Detectors feature 10 kHz or higher Operating Frequency". I guess I didn't see the "or higher" part until I read it again. I am looking at the Cortes now for possible purchase and would like to hear from actual users of this unit. Happy Hunting from RDF :tesoro::detecting:

P.S Oh, by the way jbow.....I have CDO too.
