Tesoro Tiger Shark

coin50

New member
Just purchased a new detector and should be here on Thursday. This is my second detector. My first was a Bounty hunter, 4 years ago. Any helpful hints about this detector? I am planning on using it in my area lakes. Will this machine perform better on dry land than what my bounty hunter did?

Mine and my friends experience with the Tiger Shark on land has been jaw dropping. In all Metal Fast Mode it is one deep beast. I have a 7 month old test garden and it will find all coins at 12" deep in all metal mode. Fresh test gardens usually aren't good because the ground matrix has been disturbed and my other land detector proves that. Now the Tiger doesn't scream on these deep coins but there is a noticeable change in the threshold when passing over the targets. Yes it should blow your bounty hunter away. I only have about 8 hours on it in the water so far. My first time out it hit a small ring loud and clear. The discrimination is not marked like your typical Tesoro, it is numbered instead. You have to play with the disc. and targets to find appropriate settings to disc out. In the water if I hunt in silent search and I turn the disc as low as it will go. It's not like dirt digging on land, you just use your scoop and take a quick look at the target. After a while you can tell trash targets because they will have double beeps or be raspy at the begining and end of the tone. I try to spend a fair amount of time hunting in all metal mode with background threshold to get deeper, but sometimes I just want silence and hunt in normal silent search. Don't touch the inside pots, the factory settings are just fine. This advice was given to me by experienced Tiger Shark users. The quality of this detector is top notch. Get a good sand scoop, you're gonna need it. I just got my new 8.5 T-Rex and can't wait to try it this weekend on the beaches.

It might take some time to get used to as compared to the bounty hunter, but once you get the hang of it you will love this beast!

I have never used a bounty hunter, but the tiger shark is awesome. In FRESH water that thing would drive me nuts, because it would get good hits on the little earring backs that would fall through my scoop. I sold it off to get an Excalibur 2, the tiger shark was pretty blind in salt water, but in fresh water it was much more sensitive than the Excalibur 2.
