Tesoro Vaquero :tesoro::usaflag: Rooting Out Coins

I decided to work the grassy areas next to some curbs and sidewalks today. The discrimination stayed at my normal setting, the point where a Gatorade Sports Foil Cap just discriminates out. The Threshold was set just high enough to be able to hear a faint steady hum. I was able to run at full sensitivity and the ground balance was set a little to the negative side. There was no shortage of wheat pennies (1940, 1943, 1930, 1955, 1944, 1925). Most were shallow, except for one that was around 7 inches deep. I got a good but broken mixed signal that came from beneath a tree root. I told myself, I bet this has been passed over a few times. I decided to go for it. I dug down on one side of the root and tunneled under it until a got a signal with my ProPointer. I decided it would be easier to get to the target from the other side, so I cut a plug on the other side of the root. Out pops a big ole rusty nail, Damn. I rescan and got a loud clean signal and found a wheat penny in the loose extracted dirt outside the hole. So that was what the Vaquero was after! I rescanned the hole again and got yet another good signal. I dug down and popped a 1907 Indian Head Penny. The nail, the wheat penny and Indian Head Penny were in an area no bigger than my fist. Now that's a real nail test done in the field. The next good audio signal turned out to be a 1900 Barber Dime that was around 3 inches or so deep. I told myself it would be nice to have a Buffalo Nickel to go the Indian Head Penny and Barber Dime. No lie, the very next audio signal that I got sounded great. I thought it might possibly be a gold wedding band, so just for the Hell of it, I decided to thumb the discrimination for the first time today. The audio signal dropped out cleanly at the 5 cent mark. I was very careful to cut the plug big enough not to damage a gold ring if one was in the hole. Out pops a frigging 1938 Buffalo Nickel. What are the odds of that happening? This Genie thing has me scratching my head. I rubbed her chest really good before I left this morning.:)

 congrats on the finds!

Awesome finds! Now you can track your steps and calories burned with the "FitBit One". Now all you need is a charger.

Thanks! I was trying to figure out what it does. It's showing that the battery is low and needs a charge so it can function.

Wow that is some great detecting Tabman. Those are some fine finds. Thanks for sharing and tomorrow when I go out I am going to say if tabman can do it I can.....:clapping: Great work... Z

tab now I like the Vaquero better , nails get to be a problem when the nail is much higher than the detected target it seems the nail has a stronger signal and then will mask but if the coin & nail are in close proximity you have a very good chance of hearing that coin I just love those live photos of the coin just come to light after many years Nice"

Great hunt and Great post! I'm sitting here laughing and shaking my head about that damned Genie of yours! How come Tab always finds the good stuff? He's gotta Genie in his pocket! How many wishes you got left you figure? You just wasted one on that toasted buff when you should have been wishing for a gold coin!
Mud

Mud, having a newly acquired Genie I have to be really careful what I wish for.

I didn't mention this before, but right before I found that Walking Liberty Half, I was thinking it would be nice to find a large silver coin like Jim has done so many times before.

I knew all I had to do is put my coil over one and it would be mine, because I dig most repeatable audio signals.

Then there's that deal about the gold ring.

I'm don't believe any of this, but I'm not taking any chances.:)

I'm rubbing my Genie's chest every morning before going detecting and I'm gonna be real careful what I wish for.

Great finds Tabman! I can't wait until I retire! Problem is I have a ways to go yet!

Tab, you should auction off that Genie or yours on the 'Accessories" Forum! Give a few of the brothers here a chance to find their 'dream coin'...it would be super great if everybody got a chance to rub that Genie, find 3 things, and then pass it on!:beers:
Mud

This is a special Genie, I've already gone past 3 wishes. It's no telling what this Genie is worth.

Mud you just need to come out of the closet and fess up that you have Tesoro feelings.

You won't believe my luck! My wife just noticed the FitBit One on my desk and asked where I got it from. She told me that she has been hearing about them from people at her Yoga class and wanted to get one. This Genie thing is really working out great for me.:)

Tabman, unlike Mudman, I am officially coming out of the closet to bravely admit that I have feelings for Tesoro. I would never sell my X-Terra 705, but I want a Vaquero real bad (see my previous and only post to the Tesoro Board...)

Now then, if someone were to send me a certain Genie with only partially used up wishes, I might purchase a Vaquero soon after receipt with which to photograph said Genie with the Vaquero's first find before returning the Genie to her rightful caretaker.

...just suggestin'...

Johnp3 I know that I should share my Genie, but it ain't gonna happen.:)

tabman

Tab, even though I won't have the Jeannie the Genie, I'm going to get the Vaquero anyways. I think it's a nice fit alongside my 705 and I'm looking forward to learning the Tesoro way of doing things. I'll report back when I've got her in hand and I'm sure I'll be asking for advice. Thanks!

You know Tab, that just hurts.

OK wait.....

Alright, I'm over it.

Go back a few posts and get a copy of my Genie and put the printed copy in your right hip pocket when you're detecting and see if that works. Let me know.:)

I think that it will be a poor substitute, but I'll try it. I figure if I get 10% of your finds I'll be in great shape!
