Tesoro warranty?

ct_tesoro

New member
I bought a used silver umax, wanted to send it out for repair yesterday to make sure it all works, and they said it'd run me $50. I've heard from a lot of other tesoro owners that they do the repair for free even if you bought it used, did they change the policy? I have the original box and warranty card.

Tesoro did change their policy, oh well...hope they enjoy the backlash that's going to bring them with all their "loyal" customers.

Don't bother sending in the warranty card. The policy did change and if you are not the original buyer you have no warranty even if the machine is only a week old. Just pay the money and get it fixed.

Just pay to get it fixed. What's with all these warranty wieners???? LOL

The new warranty policy is right in line with everyone elses.

The biggest change for many users, you will be more careful with your electronic instrument. No more tossing about, throwing into your trunk, getting it muddied up, not putting on a cover when it rains, leaving it in the back seat of your car with a blazing hot sun heating up your cars interior,............etc. If you do it will cost you.

We need to put ourselves in their shoes, fixing things for free over & over would get expensive after awhile. Plus I couldn't even imagine what they have spent in shipping alone just checking out detectors that get sent in to them for just a checkup. They are basically a detector doctor, how many doctors give us a free checkup. Plus there probably has been many times people would buy a half beat up not working right Tesoro detector send it in get it fixed for nothing and get it back and sell it for a profit, not the right thing to do of course but there are those that would do it. Shipping has got expensive especially if shipping from one side of the country to the other.

Pay the $50.00 bucks, That's still cheap for a tune up(if you really need one). There warranty is in line and still better than other company's. They are still one of the best service dept's to deal with. I'm glad the buck stops there.Like skywhiz said, stops one from buying used, getting it fixed for free, selling for a higher price.Pay the man.good luck.

Why not test it and see what it does before thinking it needs repairs . Is it not beeping is it not discing out targets etc this might s a ve you a charge you dont eed to spend

The word here is USED. You are not the original owner so warranty dose not apply to you. You by a new Tesoro and the warranty is for you for a life time.

Let's not forget that Tesoro gives the original purchaser a lifetime warranty. That's the best warranty by far, compared to other metal detector manufacturers.

My question is: If it works as intended, why would you send it in for repair? I would run an air test with it, should signal on a dime at 7", if it passed that test, all is good, take it in the dirt.

I agree with the majority here. Tesoro has spent a lot of their own dime fixing and shipping second hand detectors. They probably should have changed the policy long ago in my opinion. However, I do believe their former policy was what kept folks interested in Tesoro. It's going to be a LOT harder to sell or trade Tesoro's now so I bet that will keep some from purchasing new ones. -Jay

Yep, I used to regularly see Tesoro's for sell on ebay, with the just back from Tesoro service slip filled out from the Tesoro Service Manager, the new policy stopped the practice of folks making a buck at Tesoro's expense.

I think the new policy should boost new detector sales along with boosting used higher end models, used lower end models will probably take a hit in the future, but at the moment there does not seem to be any shortage of folks purchasing the used ones for 30 bucks less than the cost of a new model.

+1

Their former policy has always been lifetime warranty to the original owner! It was never like a Craftsmans Box End Wrench where the name carries the warranty no matter who's hand its in.

Yes, as favors to some on what was most likely not an expensive repair or maybe just an adjustment they waved the fee. When I first starting shopping for a Tesoro a good many of the people here was telling me to just buy used, you still get a lifetime warranty! so, when I decided I wanted a Tejon I downloaded a Tejon manual, right in the manual it stated "Lifetime Warranty To The original Owner" So, I had to rethink the idea of USED! and went through several topics here sifting it out. I still opted for a used one, but I knew that if I had a problem with it they may or may not fix it for free.

Now, I have more of a problem with buying a brand that has a lifetime warranty, the company gets bought out, continues the brand name but stops honoring the warranty! I had that happen.

Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you.Now like already stated why exactly do you feel it needs to go to AZ. to be checked out?Like another old saying goes:If it ain't broke why fix it?

The warranty did not change. It has always been for the original owner. They were trying to be nice. They have to start sticking with the original warranty to remain competitive. Look around you. There is "high quality" crap coming in from China every day. I'd rather see a new model from Tesoro than to have them spend money on aging detectors. Sure, yours is like new but at what point do you draw the line in order to keep owners from hopping on the feebie bandwagon?

 Tesoro's main drawing point was free repairs. That is now OVER. Only time will tell how this will hurt them. I have already noticed a significant drop in used Tesoro detector values on Ebay. All my future Tesoro detector purchases will be NEW units and they had better darn sure fix them for FREE or I will go to another brand. Period.

The folks at Tesoro also have families to feed and bills to pay . I thank them for all the freebies they have done for me over the years . I think $50.00 is more than reasonable , heck , the shipping alone eats up a huge part of that . I would gladly pay that if my bought used, like new Vaquero needed fixing . I don't think this new policy is going to hurt them either . I'm hoping their new model coming out has the features I want because I know it will be a well made , great functioning detector and It will be money well spent .
Oh , I will be keeping the Vaquero and selling a couple of other brand detectors .
