Testing coils

Can someone please tell me how I can test a Garrett Beach Hunter AT3 coil, I have checked it with a multimeter and only have continuity on 2 of the four terminals, should I have continuity on the other 2. My problem is that the detector powers up ok and I get the threshold hum but get no change of noise when the coil is passed over a target (have tried several types of targets such as rings, coil

Hi Kiwi . Most coils have 2 windings inside, a transmit and a recieve, it sounds like you have lost a winding. but i dont know that machine so i would check with Garrett they will proberly give you more info on the coil. pedro

Not having DC continuity on both coils does not mean that the coil is bad. Garrett sometimes has an internal cap in the coil so it will pass AC but not DC. Calling Garrett is a good idea.
