Bruce, our cat of 15 years, certainly looked like he was going to die. He was hiding in dark places - guessing his eyes did not like bright light. He growled at Sherry which he has never done. His cries were very sad. His movements whenever he did move were painful to watch and had to have been even more painful for him.

We tried to call a vet last night and was unable to reach one...we were going to put him to sleep to keep him from hurting any more. The cost would have been more than we had. I had a thought (Holy Spirit) that if we used Benadryl on the dogs to calm them down maybe we could use it to put Bruce to sleep and see how things were in the morning...or if it overdosed him then we would have done what a vet would have done. Sherry decided to try to get him to sleep instead of going into a coma and then passing on.

Bruce took the half pill and didn't seem to put him to sleep and when it did it was only for a short while then he was back up again in pain. He wouldn't or couldn't eat. We thought for sure by morning he would be gone.

This morning I expected to find Bruce in some corner passed away. He was lying in the hallway half in and half out of the bathroom door like he always used to do. I spoke to him and got a meow back...not a painful one but a greeting type meow. I offered him some tuna fish and he dug right into it. Later I bought some canned foods for him...we usually gave him dry food,

Right now he is back to his normal self. We can guess at a few things and other things we know. What we know is God let us do only what we did.
Using Benedryl as a sleep aid probably saved his life instead of ending it, How? Why? That's where the guessing part comes in.

This morning I killed 2 spiders in the house..one was even on my computer screen. What we are thinking is that because of the heat the spiders are moving about...wolf spiders which we have too many of around here actually go out and hunt their prey. We think Bruce found one of them and 'played' with it and either had gotten bitten or ate the thing. The poison was slowly and painfully killing Bruce. The Benedryl has anti-histamines in it and we think that is what neutralized the poison and got Bruce back on his feet.

Your prayers, God's Holy Spirit making the suggestions to use Benedryl, etc. all went to saving Bruce's life.

Thank you all and Thank God. To Him be the glory.

Doobie will have his buddy around for awhile longer and we are all glad.
