The 12 Ferrous Line.

Do you think Minelab have done the right thing concentrating most common targets on the 12 Ferrous line? I know the range has been expanded to 50 but when you get trash coming out on the same line it means you have a lot more targets squashed into a smaller area. On the Explorer a rubbish target came out on say 3-28 and a coin came out as 7-26 on the Etrac that same piece of rubbish comes out at 12-41 and the coin at 12-40. As you can see the on Explorer it is obvious which is the rubbish! But not on the Etrac. The digital number on the same coin on the Etrac can also differ from 12-39 to 12-41 due to different conditions. I do a lot of detecting in rubbishy areas and to me the 12 line is more of a disadvantage than an asset. Even though the machine has a faster processor you have to detect much slower and use smaller coils to help pick out those good targets. This is where it is more important to go by sound and use the full variable tones to help recognise and seperate the good targets. Dont get me wrong I like my Etrac but think this is a bit of a step backwards. Seeya Neilo

The 'other' trash item may be difficult to replicate, but can you still describe it also, to fill in the picture.

Good topic Neil....should provide an interesting thread...It has before, but new readers will be keen to express their 2 cents worth. TheMarshall

Marshall Typical Aussie $ 1 coin reads 12-38 to 41 and $2 (smaller coin) reads 12-36 to 39 main trash item aluminium bottle top but there are a huge variety different sizes, shapes etc.

In short, No. They are marketing the smart screen but really using a linear (1-50) TID.
