The bad and the ugly!...........

yesterday you seen the good. (3 cent, mercs, wheats etc...) Now here is the bad and the ugly. This is everything that was in my pouch from that hunt.
There are over 50 trash targets here. A few I picked up because I spotted them and didn't want them in a foot or tire.

Just wanted to show how we have to dig a lot of targets to get a few good ones.

Hey Mike! You sure you ain't been hitting one of my sites? That looks like what I find most of the time. I know if you want to find the good, you gotta dig it all. As I said, I am not real patient, and I think God is trying to teach me patience, by having me metal detect. I know I pass up some good stuff, as I am trying to learn the signals that my Garrett puts out. Seeing your pictures and knowing how experienced you are makes me feel a little better. At least I know that I am not the only one who detrashes the ground when I hunt. I bag all of the trash items I see when I hunt, whether above or below ground.

Well, we've all had our share of trash items, when trying to find the goodies! Just comes with the territory and digging! I've picked up trash off top of ground as well from under and placed them in a plastic bag and then dumped the bag, if and when I came to a trash can, if not I put them in my trash after getting back home! A good citizen and detectorist helps keep the parks and playgrounds clean and fills their holes for the children's sake! God Bless! Betty

lately if I am at an old house I dig every non ferrous signal I come across. Sometimes it really pays off, you never can fully trust your detector, by diggin it up is the ONLY for sure way to tell what it is!

a few things come to mind when I see grommets. If aluminum they are probably off some of the cheaper and newer tarps.

The older brass type dates them earlier than the aluminum ones. These come off old canvas tarps and tents. Thinking back I have to think that tents (nylon) around the 70s or 80s started using the aluminum. Before that would seem to be canvas tarps and tents similar to those sold by Army surplus after WW II or tents and tarps used by the Army before and after WW II for some time - say up to the 70s or 80s with the new nylon tenting and aluminum.

I could be wrong.

Next thought is if finding brass grommets, are they maybe from tarps and tents from say fairgrounds and traveling carnivals? Maybe from a camp ground where old tents may have been used...say like Boy Scout camping sites (which are not always at Boy Scout camps). I know of a couple places when I was an adult leader in Scouting where we had overnight camping in parks...usually in the nicer weather time frames but also during some of the 'Klondike' and 'Polar Bear' camp outs in the winter.

So guess I am getting at what type of grommets might lead one to realize a time frame (silver coins) with brass grommets or (clad) with aluminum grommets.

Barking up a wrong tree? What ya think?

Been running into grommets at the ball field. Been wondering what they were using...tents? tarps? and for what...protection from the sun (shade) or part of say some hot dog booth that sold pop too...explaining why so many crown caps in the area.
