The door bell rang, Rolex answered!:fisher:

Pictures of finds from the last couple of my hunts. I was digging away pretty good Wed. morning when my son called and said he was ready for some fishing. Although we had planned to fish Wed. afternoon and Fri and Sat, fishing was so good we came back last night. And I speak with forked tongue. It was down right tough. All in all, the hunts again yielded a variety of finds, including running into the 3 Merry Widows again. The big amber piece is a hairbrush, kind of an ornate buckle, (I think) which I recovered in 2 pieces about 5" apart. Got an old appearing toasted toy car that has some writing underneath so hopefully with some tender care cleaning I can get the mfg name. Also found a toasted cell phone and a round disc with Chandler, Hook Mfg Co, Buffalo, N Y. Dug the G E doorbell this morning along with the 43d Merc and the Rolex watch. The watch, which appears to be fake, but will test it to make sure, came out of the same scoop of dirt as the clad quarter. I took a shot of the log I was hunting beside when I hit the watch and quarter. Hope you all can dig some good ones. HH jim tn

Nice going. The Mercury Dime is a sure winner. Save your time and effort, the Rolex is a fake, because they don't manufacturer one with a gold tone plating.

It looks like you are really enjoying your new coil that your wife got you for Christmas.

Thanks Gerald. The coil I got was for the Omega, the 10" DD. This little baby I've had since the original F 75 came out and really handles woods hunting nicely. HH jim tn

Great finds Jim. Bet your heart started beating when you saw the round gold object in that black dirt.

Wonderful finds! :clapping: I gave your method hunting the woods a go today...couldnt take just sitting around any longer, took a tiling spade since the ground is frozen, under the leaves and snow it was diggable..nothing good, but had fun finding some hotwheel cars and whatnot. Also, I could run full sens, so that was new to me as well, Its raining up here right now, so I dont know what to expect for the sledding hills tomorrow, they will probably be solid ice.

I've never hunted the woods and after seeing all the nice coins Jim tn find I thought I would give it a shot....Slowly worked my way in and carefully started the swingin looking around for possible wild animals ...I hear alot of strange noises coming from these woods at nite....Stepping over logs and walked and walked picking up a few shotgun shells here and there, saw a deer stand, noone in it, I think I'll be ok I said to self........Got on in there alittle deeper, started stumbling over rocks and gettin alot of signals, appears to have been something here, sure hope its not haunted whatever it is I thought..Started pickin nails and finding broke pottery pieces.....Still taking time to look around for something that might want a bite of me, I dig up this little tiny round thing and rub off the dirt and I seen the words half dime, I turned it over and saw 1853. I said OMG!.....lts a seated liberty.......I screamed woo hoo and did a happy dance!....Wow I didn't know these things were so tiny......I never found another coin after that....My first half dime and now I'm thinkin Why has this coin got a hole in it...............Yes I will go back soon!.......

Thanks for all the info everyone shares on this forum!..
O yeah This is my first find of 2013...happy dance :wiggle:

Gee, am glad I was able to inspire you in some small way. Now, can it be my turn? :cry:I have never found one myself. Seriously, really great find. HH jim tn

Cheryl...you weren't hunting out those woods after dark were you? Lots of stange things going on after dark. Be sure to take a friend with you. BTW...most those half dimes were so small that some folks would drill a hole in them and keep them on a string so they wouldn't lose it so easily. 5 cents to some folks was a lot of change. I've also heard that indians would some times wear them as jewelry and decoration. I've found one or two myself at indian arrowhead camps. Then again...even the settlers liked them for jewelry too. A couple would make a nice set of ear rings.
Very good find! Happy hunting...you may have opened up a few more doors of finding old silver...and maybe that elusive gold! Just be careful!!

Jim -

Whats your strategy for using that little coil in the woods. I have one but rarely use it. CCH

They punched a hole in them. Drilling would lose material. Even though drill could mean, 'drill with a punch'. Not trying to be critiquing, just wanted to make it more clear.

The reasons on this particular site are two fold. It is loaded with bottle caps and the concentric Id's them better then my DD's. Secondly, and more importantly, its size and shape allows me to work it under and around brush, logs and so on that I can't do with the larger 11" coil. There are a numerous open spots on this site that I and a few others have hit with the bigger coils so now to make finds I have to work those tougher to get to spots. Hope you have another a great year. HH jim tn

Wow, you guys back east have it good, evan out in the woods you find way cool stuff. How long has that log been sitting there? To think a remote spot like that had that kind of traffic that long ago is amazing. good luck on that watch, hope it's the real deal.
