The EXcellerator 10 X 14 DD ... LONG POST

Awhile back my good buddy JW from Kellyco sent me a "experimental" 10X14 DD EXcellerator coil to field test on the SE. Just before lunch today he called for a UPDATE. I finished my work day early and decided to take full advantage of the nice weather and hit an local site I've had some luck with in the past.
Having only 3 outings with this coil (10 hours relic hunt time) I wanted to see how it did in the parks before posting.
First off, this coil handles like a dream for such a large footprint and the weight or lack of is SURPRISING. Personally I can't tell much difference between it and the stock SE 10" ... believe it or not !
It pinpoints right on and there's no trick to it whatsoever, middle of the coil just below the shaft ... BAM, targets there.
Another surprise was how well it handled when 2 - 3 targets were under the coil at the same time ... EXCELLENT separation, matter of fact, it rates the BEST of any large coil I've tested over the years ... hands down.
Unfortunately, all of the pictures I made while relic hunting with this coil were lost due to an accidental write over which included mini balls at 8-13" and several small pieces of brass in the 6-9" range so it's definitely a prime relic hound.
Haven't gotten the opportunity to beach hunt with it... YET anyway :)
OK .. about today's follow up hunt in the parks.
In less than 3 hours I pulled 29 clad quarters, 1 Buff, 27 clad dimes, 33 clad nickels, 1 merc and 5 rosies.
Oh yeah ... I must have dug 20 or so pennies including 4 wheat's.
I covered a LOT of ground today with this coil and never tired from using it.

All coins were in the 4 - 7" range with the exception of the merc that was a measured 10" deep and the tone and ID was dead on.
Settings were wide open iron mask, ferrous tones, and 28 sens.
I know the size of this coil may scare some folks off, personally I tend to hunt parks with a small coil but each coil has it's place and time and I sure HOPE Ole JW doesn't ask for this one back

Good Hunting

Thats an odd looking thing. I noticed also coil wire is to the right and not behind rod. I wonder why these newer coils are getting oblong and not staying round? Looks like you did some digging though, just think if the U.S. made $1,$2 coins common like other countries...I think I would stay in the school yards where the clad is plentiful...Cha Ching!

I'm seeing a lot of "different" coil designs lately too.
The oblong design on this one sure makes it easier to get in between tree growth, now all we need is a solid coil cover to keep it from hanging on roots and such :)

Sounds like its going to be a good coil to have in the arsenal. I've been out a few times with the new 6 inch excelerator and its one hot coil for sure. This one is a true 6 inches in diameter. Planned on doing some teckin with it today but its 44 and raining :(

Mike, that's a great report and I'm very excited. Since getting the 4.5 x 7 I've been thinking it would be nice to have a bigger elliptical as well, something like that T2/F75 coil. Looks like my dream came true! So I called MY friend JW today too. He assured me he has some on the way, so hopefully I'll be able to get one soon...looks like winner!
